Lots of Good Memories

The lower part of that photo shows the "old" civic center with the curved roof that burned down due to negligence of a county employee in the 1970's. As they said back then, "the mall has it all" and that included illegal drugs.

Lots more photos of the mall from back in the day are here -

JT,
About 10 years ago there was a huge public housing project approved for that site. What happened?

Hey JT do you remember when A$$burrow would post almost daily the results of Nosey Joe Holloway's Freedom of Information Act request on how the County Executive(Rick Pollitt) and the BOE would spend their money on their expense accounts? I just went to ASSburrow's Hobby Blog and searched and found they conveniently stopped "investigating" and posting after #27 on October 19, 2014. Just a few weeks before the election in November. Part 27! So I found at least 27 nosey posts about County Executive Rick Pollitt spending account, but nothing since the 3 1/2 years since One Term Bob took office. Personally, I am glad that these reports on "how our tax dollars are spent" were reported. With that said why didn't Joe Holloway request a FOIA and his butt buddy One Term Bob? Come on Joe Holloway what are you waiting for? Come on Joe Albero, how about some fair and balanced reporting?

Maybe this is something that you could investigate Mr. JT. I would love to see How Bob, Strausburg and Dr. Hanlin are spending our tax dollars.

That was a busy place. The Centre is also busy with the theater and other attractions, parking lot has plenty of vehicle traffic everyday!!!!

"America's Most Beautiful Mall"!

Anonymous said...

Why did they tear it down? I loved it as a flea market, and 'specially when they put that pro wrasslin ring in there and had Mexican wrasslin used to go there all time and look at it.

I despise the Centre now. The old mall you could walk through with no issues. The Centre is nothing but free child care for punk ads kids.

Culver is busy loading up his new Suburban for a weekend down at assburrows in O.C.

Nope! It was a spark from the floor buffer that caught the fumes from the cleaning solution on fire.

He's not interested in fair & balanced reporting, just hateful & vindictive, just like the only comments he'll publish.

While it was a going concern there were two separate murders at the old mall.

In 1972, a young woman was murdered by a man after he had shot her parents in their home. She was shot while behind the counter of the bookstore where she worked.

In 1991 a SU student from Pittsburgh was stabbed to death in the women's bathroom.

Among the "good" ole days........when Salisbury was a "good" town!

The old mall existed when there was a middle class around here. Those days are gone. 5 rich people then the rest of us.

Nope! It was a spark from the floor buffer that caught the fumes from the cleaning solution on fire.

And, that was because the buffoon didn't take proper precaution -- the fumes were highly flammable and the sparks touched them off.

Jonathan

That building next to the old civic center (at the right edge of the photo) is now empty. Any idea what will happen to it?

10:18 County will buy it and use it for another gov't admin building

JT, I live on Bethel St in Salisbury across from the Optimist softball fields. When I was younger me and other volunteers used to work on the fields, but now Wicomico County apparently has a hand in taking care of them. I watched 2 county employees doing their so called work here yesterday, and to say the least was not remotely impressed with their effort. You really had to see it to believe it. I'm in my seventies and I could outwork the 2 of them right now.

9:48 it is sad, they lack leadership from the top down! Not for long Jack Heath will be a breath of fresh air!

I agree with 1227, if Culver was a true conservative as he claims to be either him or his flunky supervisors would be out in the field watching these jackoffs. Culver doesn't care about taxpayers, he's only thinking about his check every other Wednesday.

There is absolutely no excuse for the old mall property to not be developed by now. It is an embarrassment to the city and county. Obviously no business is going to move to this hell hole but why couldn't it be turned into athletic fields and a hotel. The hotel could also serve as a homeless shelter when it isn't fully booked. God knows we need more homeless shelters and section 8 housing in our little rats nest.

A portion of the old mall property could be turned into a stop and rob convenience store. That way the local up and coming Salisbury thugs could train for bigger and better things.

I see hussey in the paper this week. It is a glorious time in this world when the Elks get a bigger bar. Unfortunately the Elks were forced to donate half their slot revenue to the United Way. If they weren't mandated by law to donate the United Way wouldn't have gotten a dime. That money would have been used on the Pilchard horse rescue fund. Go bury another horse loser.

Bob and his county worker girlfriend will have plenty of room to spread out at the new Elks bar. From the looks of em, they need more room. We have to replace her chair at the tourism dept.once a month.

*******

Right, just like he has been in Salisbury?

I'm a Republican and this will be one of the few times I will vote for a Democrat. Culver has to go. I work around a bunch of county "workers" each day and I can't take it anymore.

I see the recycling bins at the Civic Center have been moved to the other side of the parking lot. I'm sure this was an executive decision made by Pam. On behalf of the moral committee I say great job and keep up the good work.

Now that's absurd.

When I was a kid we used to play basketball in the Civic Center. Now they lock it up and don't allow anyone in unless you're willing to pay for a mens league team. Why not change the name to Wicomico Pay or don't play Center?

Anonymous said...

9.12 She needed the bins moved because they blocked her view from her new office. She keeps looking to the west wondering why the City of Salisbury gave her the boot and how long before Jack Heath does the same thing. Then someone else can enjoy all that new expensive taxpayer funded office furnishings.

Is there any chance of getting Gary Mackes back? Maybe Culver could call him and say it was just a big misunderstanding. Maybe Culver could call him and invite him for a drink at his basement restaurant (oh that's right, it went bankrupt). BTW Culver you need to send your drone over to the Civic Center to keep an eye on the back door. Things are starting to leave here again.

Anonymous said...

It's sad that Mackes won't be coming to the big grand opening tomorrow. Gary was responsible for the growth of recreation and tourism in this county. Now you have people like Culver, Pam, and Miller getting the credit for it. I can honestly say that life for us workers at the Civic Center has changed a lot, and not for the better.
