A Poem For Kaitlyn Sent In By A Reader

For Kaitlyn
by: Shelly Logan
It saddened my heart when I heard today
About a vibrant young girl who passed away
The cause of death was at her own hand
As hard as I try I can't understand
I heard she was bullied but I don't know why
I wondered if anyone had heard her cry
For her family and friends I will continue to pray
To the bullies, this is what I have to say:
It's ok to be different
We are not all the same
We are who we are
There's no one to blame
We are born with a soul and lessons to be learned
We have bridges to cross to be left unburned
We are all human, we cry tears and we bleed
All we want out of life is a chance to succeed
No matter if your transgender, straight or gay
Or which God you choose to hear you pray
No matter if you handicapped, disabled or ill
Whether your against abortion or take the pill
No matter what color your skin may be
We all deserve to live discrimination free
How many more hate crimes must we endure
How much longer must we feel insecure
Before the hatred in this world begins to cease
And everyone in it can live in peace
So don't judge anyone unless you've walked in their shoes
and let people live their lives the way that they choose
Rest in peace my dear, your pain is now gone
Memories of you will always live on
I pray the loss of your life has not been in vein

And that you taught a lesson to those that remain

Those who bullied her know who they are. And so do many others. They will have to live with that the remainder of their miserable lives. Having been bullied and then seeing the bullies later in life, many of them remained the losers they were.

My God what a beautiful and poignant poem. I do not know the young lady or her family but I am so sad and angry she felt this was the only way to find peace. Breaks my heart.

Shelly, you have shared your feelings with us - and it is beautiful My wish is all could read it and realize we all are not alike, but we are all God's Children. Sadly we are guilty of judging others without knowing circumstances. You explain it very well in your poem. Thank you.

Beautiful poem and beautifully written!!!!! Very emotional poem also and very caring words for kaitlyn's family members and her very caring and close friends!!!!!!!!!! This poem doesn't mean anything to those who bullied her and made her school life and home life so depressing she felt going to heaven was the only way she'd stop being bullied and those bullies would stop messing with her whether they were doing it in school and/or on the "social network, or social networks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What an absolute beautiful girl. How in God’s name any human being could find a fault in her is beyond comprehension. The sad reality is those who bullied her don’t care. I too have know bullies when I was young and your right about young bullies growing up and becoming adult bullies. There is a blogger who has tormented good people in Salisbury and Wicomico who are simply trying to do the best they can and that blogger fits this pattern and guess what? He doesn’t care who he hurts.

Beautiful words that someone spoke for you..I hope that those who may have pushed you to the edge...will take a BETTER look at themselves now and see what they have done...this could have easily been one of them. One minute a friend the next minute you're not, it's a roller coaster ride for anyone especially someone so young and innocent! MAY GOD GIVE THESE PARENTS COMFORT AND PEACE! It's so VERY hard to loose someone! My CONDOLENCES!
