Salisbury Mayor Salary Discussion Part 2

Yesterday was a big discussion day in regards to my opinion regarding a pay raise for the Mayor of the City Of Salisbury. I think the truth of the matter is, people can't get past who the Mayor is as opposed to what kind of salary they receive. In this life I can tell you, you are never going to agree with everyone on everything, I still firmly believe that by increasing the salary for the Mayor , you will encourage a larger group of people to consider running.

Many wrote in opposing this because of Jakes stance on the Winder monument. How can I the guy who started the petition against removing it, believe he should get a raise. This sort of thinking is exactly why the world is like it is. If I disagree with someone on something they should be gutted and left for dead on the side of the road. It is ok to disagree with people in life.

Do I think Jake leans toward the left? absolutely. Do I agree with everything he does? nope. Does that mean I should hate him? Does that mean the Office he holds doesn't deserve a pay raise? Ok so if you think 75 thousand is too much, I agree it would be better for it to be lower. I think having 2 Deputy City Administrators is too many if the Mayor is going to get a substantial pay raise.

It takes a vision to try to make Salisbury better for the future, and if you stand back and see the ideas Jake has proposed come to life, Salisbury would rock. If we don't take the chance on encouraging others with a vision for the City with a pay raise for the Office, then the City will stay as is forever. As someone who has lived here my entire life, and where my family is from for generations Salisbury matters to me. If I was going to offer up a solution I would recommend a 50-60 thousand area salary . That is my opinion and you are entitled to yours.

NO Dems LOVE spending my hard earned TAX $$$ let him deal with it he KNEW what the job payed before he signed on the dotted line plus he gets a nice vk from Daddy Perdue all DEMS are is GREEDY GREEDY GREEDY.

Why would I want to give a raise to a mayor who helps cover up Salisbury crime stats JT ?.

Nice post JT and I agree 100%. Think about the office not the person....

At a little after 9AM there was either an explosion,a really bad wreck or a sonic boom. Not sure which but it shook everything.

Sorry but none of Day's visions "rock." Some dumb festival that is only going to benefit a few is a good thing? How many are going to see their wages increase because of this festival? How many will finally get to be homeowners because of this festival?
I see nothing he has ever done as a benefit. Please clue me in if I am wrong. The wifi for the plaza? How did that work out other then for the benefit of the person who provides it?
Headquarters Live? Just like everyone who is informed predicted. It failed miserably. He done nothing. Again correct me where I may be off base.

Jake farted a $50,000 raise.

it should be a decently paid position as it is now, only independently wealthy people can run for office

Probably just a transformer.

Ditto 10:03....I would like to see the accomplishments of the mayor's office. Not here to be critical and nothing to do rather the dude is a nice guy or what. I don't believe 125K would attract more qualified because people don't want to hold public office. Look at our president that donates his salary. He would do so if he wasn't wealthy because he does it to better the citizens and country.

10:03 Thank you, maybe we both are off base or something but someone tell me what he has done or how anything that he is proposing going to Salisbury any better. If I could up and move out of Salisbury I would I am tired of paying taxes, worst mistake I ever made was buying a house in the city of Salisbury but as JT says I guess we will rock.

In most jurisdictions (and all federal offices) a pay raise can not take effect until there has been an intervening election. In other words, the office holder has to be reelected to collect the new salary. Does anyone know the law in Salisbury? It would look really bad for the Mayor and council members to accept a pay raise mid-term. But recent Salisbury politicos have never been shy about feeding off the taxpayers any way possible.

Sorry to disagree but no.
1) He ran for the office VOLUNTARILY knowing what the salary is. No one made him run.
2) The salary was sufficient for every other Mayor.
3) He has done NOTHING to warrant a pay raise.
4) He doesn't give a rat's rump about this city. He is just using the mayor's office as a stepping stone to run for Congress in 2020.
5) He has stooped to the lowest form of politics - calling people who disagree with him racist.

But a bad person is holding that office and bad people before him held that office. We need change and we need to get rid of Jake Day and the Good Ole Boy System.

Rationalize it any way you want, but you're still wrong.
The mayoral position was never a fulltime job and the salary reflects it.
This has nothing to do with personalities, other than the current mayor thinks it should be a fulltime job and it fits into his grand plan (rename/reorg all the departments to allow adding as many staffing positions as possible, move city offices into parking lot retail spaces, etc).
Without real and sustainable economic input, i.e. business taxes, the residential homeowners will be flipping the tab.

Don't forget he is covering up Salisbury crime stats.

Jake is also trying to make the salary lifetime for anybody that ever holds the office.

Fact is, a committee appointed by Day, including at least one member, and chair, with a huge conflict of interest, recommended this pay raise, and the data they present to support it show that the mayor is not underpaid.

Is Jack Heath pushing this absurd pay raise for the mayor?

Just watched the meeting yesterday on Pac14.

Both Heath and Boda are backing a big raise for Jake Day. Surprisingly, Ireton is opposed to more than a small raise, and the others seem undecided.

JT,

The recommendation has nothing about letting anyone in the mayor's office go, and that's not going to happen. It will simply increase the cost of that office, and for no benefit.

And if Day makes 75,000 how much do you think Culver will get?

3:18,

If Jake Day runs for Congress he won't even carry Wicomico County, much less the Shore.

Recall how well Ireton did the last time -- lost in the primary to someone who did not even campaign.

Unfortunately, we are stuck with Day, and Heath and Boda want to give him a huge raise and make it a lifetime job, with full benefits, paid by Salisbury taxpayers.

Fact
Jake Day opposes the raise.
Fact
Only wealthy people can run or those propped up by society because it only pays minimum wage now.
Fact
We need to raise it so other qualified people will run
Fact
The wealthy in our community do NOT support a raise

$25,000 is reasonable when you look at the employment listings on the city website. Most jobs only pay 25-30k. When is Labinal going to get a replacement?

Show me where the CEO of any business or town makes less. Offer the salary and if they want they can donate it back like Trump did with his salary.

To 10/17 10:35 PM

I agree as the current 5 Congressional Districts stand NOW. Remember, they will be redrawn after the 2020 Census. And the track record of the Democrats in the Maryland legislature is to gerrymander districts to help Democrats in Congressional elections. Harris is the last Republican so don't be surprised to see them split the shore between a-hole Steny Hoyer and Dutch Rupersturder's districts.

9:24,

Take a look at the data the committee has presented as support - it shows that, if anything, he is overpaid at 25K!

10:03 is probably little Joe......What has Culver done in his term....nothing but cost taxpayers money.....Day at least has a vision........lets see if he gets re-elected them we will know the minority!!!!!! LOL don't cry Joey when hes re-elected!!!!
