It Is Time For The City Of Salisbury To Completely Divorce The County With New City Hall

If you follow the local politics of Salisbury, you have seen a great divide occur because of the lack of professionalism on the part of One Term Bob Culver. Mayor Jake Day has been pulling as many services in house as he possibly can, to avoid the Culver drama. I believe in this atmosphere that it is time the City build a modern City Hall and separate itself from the County at the Government Office Building.

Two large parcels of land are available Downtown to build this. It doesn't have to be a Taj Mahal by any means, but a nice new modern facility.  This would allow the City to grow into an even more efficient organization.

Salisbury, Maryland has many issues to be corrected and a city headquarters is not at the top of the list.

so the city residence will have to pay higher taxes because two government bodies can not get along, and we the city residence will have to support the same services provided by two government bodies .... this is bs..... maybe jake from state farm needs to hold off until the elections....

The city should take the opportunity to clean up the north prong of the river by tearing down the old industrial sites and build a waterfront City Hall, along with a park, and extend the riverwalk. They recently were donated some land for a park, just buy the neighboring land for the building. It would be right next to the Fire Station.

It's just going to raise city taxes.

why dont they just redo the old vernon powell building

Anonymous said...

Better yet why dont they use the old Monkey Wards?

Should have used the fire house across from the library. No wait, that would have been too inexpensive because the city already owned it and friends would not have gotten a sweet deal.

If that idea was put into motion, or even mentioned by Jake Day, Joe Albero would have a heart attack.

They need and they deserve a new facility.

If you have been in there recently... full of mold

I need and deserve a new vehicle 4:42, but I purchased a boat I didn't need and didn't manage my money. Therefore I'll do without.

What a shame that Ireton sold the old fire station to the Gillis clan. It would have made a nice city hall.

When that parking lot they sold to Gillis is developed, there will be lots more vacant space on the Downtown Plaza that they can adapt for "city hall."

What's so wrong with the current setup?? If it ain't broke don't fix it. It's worked for over 40 years.

Count on it -- Gillis will build the new city hall.

So days devreco can build a new hq. it would not surprise me if this was in play.

It can't happen soon enough. Give them 30 days.

City residence pay both city and county taxes, but only benefit from city resources.

Ireton gave it to gillis. Not how that happened. I know nobody defends him on here or the comments don't get through. These are jakey's friends not Jims.

Absolutely not!!! Raise my taxes so they can get some god awful hippie building. I think not. Jake and his cronies need to suck it up. He is wasting enough of my taxes. Revitalizing downtown so he can walk his family around. I want to walk my family around my neighborhood but I am too afraid to. Murders, shootings, stabbings, robberies, rapes. Yet he wants to build a amphitheatre. Negative ghost rider, I am tired of your antics.

Who care both Wicomico County and city of Salisbury both have poor leadership. Get out while you can.

wow, what a waste this would be, in these tight financial times we need to abolish the city government and centralize services, it is done all over the place. just think of the waste involved with operating multiple departments doing the same tasks, ridiculous.

Why does it have to be downtown?

Why not put it on Church Street and renovate the Bricks?

We love Salisbury.....not moving anywhere.....if A$$BURROW would get the hell off the Eastern Shore EVERYTHING would improve 300 fold!!!!!

I think the city should renovate The Bricks on Church Street and make that the new City Hall. It will have more office space if needed with the old Code and Compliance building across the street.

If the County goes to court to sue them for lost rent then it's going to raise city taxes.

Oh you have no idea what you are talking about. Yes it is a top priority. The highest priority is for Jake Day to pay the County what they owe. They need to vacate the County's Government Office Building asap.

This is dumb. Actually it is stupid. Why would you put a government building on valuable waterfront property and lose that valuable property tax.

Don't forget to X the fire agreement to and watch the county crumble cause they can't handle their own calls .
