Area Firefighters Special Post

It has been a real shame to see this fiasco with Station 13 reopen those old wounds of career vs volunteer firefighters. Many volunteers have taken it personally that the City doesn't want the services of that group as if its a judgement on them. Volunteer firefighters are the backbone of most rural communities across this Country , providing service and support for local residents in their area. In bigger Cities with more funding we are able to have paid professional staff 24/7 days a week. In Salisbury we have a system used across the Country of being a hybrid with both paid and volunteer staff. This is where the problem begins.

The volunteer group led by Polidore and the others were not good at their job. Yes I'm aware they were volunteers, but if you want to do a job that important you have to abide by rules . The people who supported them by buying the chickens and things did so with good hearts, not knowing the gravity of the wool being pulled over their eyes. These guys did not just get together out of the goodness of their hearts with this heroic spirit to serve the community. These guys were the worse of the worse, missing half the calls, having all kinds of disciplinary issues within, not wanting to do all the training required, not wanting to answer to the very Fire Chief Hoppes who runs the fire department they volunteered for.

The people opposed to them are not against volunteers, we are against volunteers like them. The ones that want to volunteer, but not adhere to rules and regulations. Cory Polidore claims it's because they are thinking of "Public Safety". If this group was worried about that they would have done their jobs on time and followed the rules. When you aren't responding to that many calls, obviously you don't care about "Public safety".

Amen. There are firefighters and there are t-shirt wearers.
The t-shirt wearers are just that. They only want the t shirt and the benefits without having to step up and do the job. They are the fire service equivalent of stolen valor.
The title of firefighter carries with it some responsibility.
The responsibility and self discipline to be willing to serve your community through the department you are a member of. Not serve yourself by using the department. You have to be willing to serve, train, respond and be there when needed.
These folks from Station 13 were not there to serve the public and they weren't there for public safety.
They were simply the t shirt wearers. And they are right where they belong.
For the rest of the volunteers in the county, what do you want to be? Step up and ssrve your communities. Put this ugly chapter behind you and carry on.
The citizens deserve firefighters willing to serve, not t shirt wearers.

With few exceptions, and Polidore and his "Station 13" pals are exceptions, volunteer fireman are dedicated team players for public safety. Truth be told, the other volunteer companies in Wicomico County want nothing to do with those clowns, who showed their true colors at Station 1 before they left.

The County Executive, Bob Culver, was a fool to support them, by telling Dave Shipley to begin dispatching them to handle 9-1-1 calls, and now Culver is lying to the public about doing that.

A-holes blog has not posted a peep about Culver's decision to give up on Station 13. Instead, the Alholer is whining about the engines from 13 and Allen getting tickets for parking illegally in Salisbury Tuesday night.

And he has the gall to criticize the MSM for non-coverage.

I am a proud volunteer who understands the volunteer fire Service which I give 100% all the time. They give the fir3 service a bad name.

Wow now I read station 1,13 wants to be a mutual aid company to other fire departments. Hell no! Do not I repeat do not allow them anything because once you open the door they will keep picking and picking for more that's how Palidore operates. Shut it down now for good and put this behind us everyone is sick of hearing about this embarrassing mess.

If you never got any of their chicken then you really missed out big time. The chicken came off the smoker and then they soaked it with a dark aus jois sauce from a squirt bottle. They put a dill pickle in the box with the chicken.

I hope they keep selling the chicken and building up the money for whatever they want to do.

What is a mutual aid company? Are they going to race all around the county trying to help people by passing other fire departments? What is the liability when the hit someone as the go to Delmar Hebron or Westside to help the Chiefs that like them. Maybe Bush can let them use the building behind station 5 as their fire department

That's the Cropper special sauce

It would make a lot more sense for them to simply join these other departments. Since all they want to do is serve and help...

But they won't unfortunately. 1- now they are tainted nobody with any sense would touch them with a 10 ft pole. 2- they won't because they don't want to play by anyone's rules but theirs which is how this whole mess started in the first place . The right thing happened here that's for sure

You are 100% correct!
This certain group with station 13 probably wouldn't make it, if they just joined another volunteer company. Too many spoiled brats in that group that have had too much handed to them. The only way any of them would make it, is if they would decide to learn to work together and follow rules.

The only thing ugly is what Hoppes did to the fire department.

What's the liability when one of Salisbury's fire trucks hits someone when they are chasing ambulances when there were not dispatched??

Everyone needs adversity in their lives, and chaos IS adversity.Something that goes against everything we think is right is not always a bad thing.Through this we have learned how growing pains affect a large city BEFORE we become a large city.Expect radical challenges in all forms of public services. Our minds must expand before our city can evolve.

Probably less than a station with no response area trying to race around the county "helping" stations that already have mutual aide.

I believe it would only be fair that Fruitland Powellville, Delmar, and Parsonsburg give up some of their first due so 13 can have their own 1st due response district. You voted to recognize them so it only make sense to help them this way. Then again they could always sue to make it happen.
