It is not a good idea to try to erase history. These people want to destroy the fact that democrats fought to keep african americans enslaved. The Democrats need to check their white priviledge and own up to the fact that they were the party of slavery then, and they are still the party of slavery today, Democrats want to keep you ignorant, poor, and dependant on them, so you have to keep voting for their policies of redistribution.

In the pow camps during the civil war around 30,000 soldiers died in Confederate prisons. While around 26,000 die in Union prisons. So, yes it is true that the southern democrats killed about 4000 more pows than the northern republicans. The reasons for this are myriad, but with death rates on both sides that were around 20-30% with the highest death rate occurring at Camp Douglas in Chicago, one can surmise that the conditions on both sides were unbelievably poor.

On another note, where in Nanticoke was this guy born? Maybe they could do something like check the somerset county tax records from that time period. FYI - that part of Wicomico was in Somerset then. As much as this pains me, maybe it should be relocated to his place of birth, or if he is buried in Wicomico, to there?

Look, I'll crack partisan quips all day long, but at the end of the day, I think it is high foolishness to try to erase history because you don't like what happened, it's so cliche, but it's also true, history does repeat itself. Having reminders of darker times hopefully prevents us from making similiar errors in the future. The fact this sign exists forced me to do research to educate my children on what happened and why. (This was years ago) If that sign wasn't there that conversation wouldn't have taken place. Is that what the democrats of today want? To erase history? Can they not face the guilt and horror of what the democrat party did? ;^)

we fought a war with england to win our independence so if we are going to erase the history of the losing side of every war we won then we better rename maryland to something else.
how about all the counties in maryland named after british royalty, better rename all them too. and while we are at it better rename all the towns and streets named after british royalty since they lost the war.

lets start with salisbury maryland named after the british town of salisbury, maybe we could rename it turdtown?

you want to start erasing history? ok but where do we stop?

The revolutionary war was the biggest war in our country`s history, it gave us our independence, without winning that war we wouldn`t have a country so why do we allow the losers of that war to continue to have states, counties, towns and streets named for them?

if erasing all vestiges of the losers of the civil war is so important then erasing all vestiges of the losers of the revolutionary war should be even more important since the revolutionary war gave us our country.

Maryland: named for queen mary needs to be changed
queen annes county: named for queen anne needs to be changed
prince georges county: named for the husband of queen anne needs to be changed
the town of princesses anne: needs to be changed
calvert county: named for prince calvert needs to be changed
and lets not forget these counties taken from the brits:
caroline
cecil
charles
dorchester
fredrick
harford
kent
somerset
talbot
worcester
the maryland flag itself: displays the coat of arms of the calvert family it is the only U.S. flag based entirely on british heraldry.

when are we going to stop this nonsense of blaming the past for our current failures as a society?

here`s an idea why don`t we try to be better than our ancestors so that in the future plaques and counties will be renamed for us due to our greater achievements than the current names rather than have the current names removed based on our under achievements?

rather than lower the bar so that our achievements look impressive to future generations why don`t we try to raise our achievements to surpass the achievements of our ancestors?

"..with the highest death rate occurring at Camp Douglas in Chicago.."

You just admitted that conditions were worse in a Yankee prison. Thank you!
