Time To Come Together For Betterment Of Everyone

While I clearly lay the blame for this fiasco on Bob Culver, the reality of the situation dawned on me yesterday when at the Fire Station.

While we were there, the call for an MVC with entrapment went out and the firefighters immediately got their gear on and headed to the call. Career, Volunteer didn't matter what mattered was saving lives. Salisbury runs a hybrid fire department with both career and volunteer firefighters as we simply do not have the money in the budget to field an entire staff of paid. I do not think less of volunteers, and honestly have never heard anyone say otherwise.

It's time this pettiness about Career vs Volunteer end. I shut down the hundreds of comments that had come in for my post because I realized that all that was doing was giving people an anonymous outlet to throw insults at the other. The truth is they need to be having these conversations face to face so a common ground can be found. I have been doing this site since Chief David See was here and the entire situation has never really changed.

Volunteers, look we appreciate the sacrifices that you all make to help keep the City safe, but part of that  job description even if you aren't getting paid is to take orders from the Chief of the Fire Department. I understand that the 9 or so of you at Station 1 refused to speak or listen to Chief Hoppes because you didn't like him or his command structure, but guys and girls that is how it has to work. Everyone has to think about what they took the job for, and be able to overlook disagreements that can be arbitrated. The people that were trapped yesterday do you think they cared if you liked Rick Hoppes? were a Volunteer or a Career Firefighter? No they saw you as someone with the ability and means and bravery to try to save them.

I implore you all, try to sit down and work it out and remember its the citizens that suffer when this happens.

If Jake Day wouldn't even hear them out in mediation the whole issue is his.

Maybe because the mayor had a agenda since the Ireton days to bring on more paid guys and cost you the taxpayer $ and a total disrespect of volunteers who love the job not for $, One thinking the other is better isnt helping either the ones i feel bad for are the medics they bust there ass and keep the Fire service alive by going on EMS CALLS,and the FF hate it but it saves there jobs and they KNOW IT, i do agree with you john on them both sitting down and talking but i fear its too late and i feel the Salibury residents will suffer for it.

This has been brewing for some time JT. Your articles were correct, Mr. Albero is now trying to throw more crap on the Sheriff's Department over moving funds around within an approved budget. He is up Alcoholic Bobs ass so far he can check his tonsils!!!!! Says they broke the law, he is a idiot, what law? They function with a set of "generally accepted guidelines" which makes what they did fine...they didn't try to hide it. They moved funds for vehicles to motorcycles, my the world is going to end.....he tries to cover the staff increases in the County by blaming someone other than Alcoholic Bob!!!!

Atleast he Admitted his mistake , thank you jt.

David See wasn't a real chief. In order to be a chief you have had to fight fire and he never did, just like Rick Hoppes.

Jake Day wouldn't listen to the volunteers. He pretty much told them to listen to Hoppes or hit the road. They chose the latter.

JT I will listen to your opinion on the fire service when I see you in a set of turn out gear

Ha ha ha to Albero blog readers he won't post my calling him out on the lie about the "illegal" moving of funds by the Sheriff's Department....but now amazingly at the bottom of one of his post under comments on the motorcycles he says they could move the funds around...imagine that someone other than him had a little more legal insight....and he tried to call me an idiot with his reply. He has that little man syndrome something terrible!!!! Ha Ha Ha

According to the volunteers and the letter the sent to the city the Mayor never responded which I tend to believe because I doubt they would leave the station after all these years. It had to be the city bullying the volunteers, There was a time when the city relied solely on volunteers but now they have the funds to man station 1 24/7 so they force out the volunteers. You will see a huge drop in Salisbury volunteer fire fighters from this point on.

You finally said something I agree with.

The first thing that needs to happen is a change of leadership in the FD and that doesn't mean another Jeff Simpson or John Tull. Neither does it mean Chris Larmore or Jay Jester from Ocean City. Ocean City is divided between the volunteers and paid paramedics and Chris Larmore should have never been appointed. It's hard to believe that clown who isn't even a basic firefighter I was appointed. It was politics just like the appointment of Hoppes and their has been nothing but problems. Jay Jester hates volunteers in Salisbury and he is a paid fireman. In Ocean City he is a volunteer fireman and he hates the paid paramedics.

Fire trucks and the people on board do more than just put out fires. Every carer member and most volunteers are EMS trained as well. The engines out of 16 are ALS certified and carry everything needed to save a life before an ambulance arrives. The other engines and ladder trucks in the city are BLS certified to provide basic life support. OBESITY is a major problem around here, many patients are over 350 pounds on these medical assists the fire trucks go on. And then its just a well check and put them back in their chair or bed, a non-billable event. Do you realize on most staffed pieces there is at least 1 paramedic on board. This just running up calls for nothing is BULL!

Unfortunately its too late. Secret meetings with Culver over a 2 year period behind the Mayor and Chief Hoppes back shows me the agenda. There have been countless reports that the Mayor and Chief are trying to get rid of Volunteers and hire more paid firefighters. Completely false. The facts speak for themselves. Failed to respond over 50 % of the time. Don't the citizens deserve a response 100 % of the time ? There would be no need to hire additional personnel if the volunteers of that station were handling calls during their watch. It's as simple as this. When the alarm comes in, you respond. It doesn't get any more basic as that.

Real dumb ass i bet if there was a fire and jt was near he would drag your stupid snowflake ass out of the building ASSHOLE.

Bullshit I worked for a city fire service and the ff hated even going for cfr training and barked about going on ems calls so dont bullshit the people.

Anonymous said...

Can someone explain why this is happening?? I haven't heard a reason yet.

Chris Larmore isn't dumb enough to take a $50k pay cut to go to another more volital situation. For some reason he has the OC council doing whatever he say.
Jester is another story. He would do anything to get into power. That is all he cares about. He is as untrustworthy as they come, and I hear is the first to ditch you at a fire.

How do you know what they did?

They have been trying to work with the City, but Rick Hoppes treated them like Shit. Then when they talked to Jake Day, the Mayor, the told them the had to follow the SOP's Hoppes had. In other words he said Fuck You, Hoppes is the boss and if you don't like it you can hit the road. That's not how you treat volunteers when the "Boss" is giving you problems. How many EEOC, ACLU and NAACP complaints is the Mayor going to let Hoppes get??

I'll call Bullshit on you and throw down the Bullshit flag. Many of the patients are not 350lbs so yes you are full of crap. That does not justify sending a fire truck to every ambulance call because a paramedic might be on board. Yes you are full of BULL!!

Here is something to think about since you mentioned a paramedic on board. Wouldn't it be cheaper to staff additional ambulances full time and then send an ambulance to medical assists instead of a fire truck??

Let's hear your response to that one!!!

Salisbury paid firemen are the same way. They hate training and they hate taking ambulance calls.

I'm not sure how dumb Chris Larmore, but he isn't smart enough to take enough classes to be a real fire chief. He should have never been "elected" to be a volunteer fire chief and he should have never been appointed as the paid fire chief by the Ocean City Town Councilman. Proves politics played a part and proved the elected officials are just as dumb as he is. Same thing can be said for Jake Day & Company.

What I can say is I believe he wouldn't come to this volatile situation for a pay cut as well. First of all legislation has been passed requiring all new department heads to live in City Limits. Again, I don't see that happening with Chris Larmore. I do see Democrat Mare Jake Day circumventing City law letting Larmore do as he pleases and giving him a pay raise and car with free gas to drive back and forth.

I do concur with you on Jay Jester. All Jay Jester has been about is looking for power to satisfy his self gratification. He loved being the President all those years collecting that $7,500 a year as the OCVFC Corporate President. That was the only power he could get because he was never appointed a Lieutenant for the longest time. Then as time went by he finally convinced more people in the OCVFC to support him. Now he has a volunteer assistant chief in Ocean City getting a new take home truck to drive everyday and back and forth to his paid job in Salisbury.

Jay also kissed enough butt in the Salisbury Fire Department(with Hoppes, et. al.) in order to get promoted to Lieutenant. He kissed enough butt to get the training officers position to use it as a stepping stone as did Hoppes and others before him. Neither one of them did much training nor did they have enough training to teach fire and EMS classes. As a matter of fact neither of them were certified to teach EMS classes and never did. Some "training officer, right). Jay kissed enough butt in Salisbury that he was finally appointed to Fire Captain and he is riding on the engine. He doesn't like to do that because he might have to fight fire so when there is a real fire(very rare) he tries to be command or on the command staff so that he doesn't have to fight fire. Eventually Jay Jester convinced Rick Hoppes to allow him to be the "Acting Assistant Chief" when the assistant chief takes off on a vacation day or calls in sick which happens often.

Ironically Jay Jester is a Volunteer Fireman in Ocean City and despises the Paid Paramedics at Ocean City Fire/EMS. They also despise him because of his involvement in the hostile takeover of the Ocean City EMS by the Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company members Jay Jester, Chris Larmore and others. Jay Jester worked behind the scenes to get the take over of Ocean City EMS and let Chris Larmore take the heat and then take the Fire Chiefs Job. Jay did this know that he will possibly getting the Fire Chiefs job in the near future.

In Salisbury Jay Jester is a paid fire captain and hates the Volunteers in Salisbury and he has been very instrumental in working with Rick Hoppes to force out the Volunteers in Salisbury. Jay also hates the paramedics in Salisbury because he isn't one and has no desire to become one. Jay is trying to work his way to the top and he would also stab his buddy Rick Hoppes in the back to get the Chiefs Job. Jay will take the chiefs job in Salisbury until the Ocean City position is open and he could apply for that position.
