From what I understand the Salisbury JCPenny's was actually one of the highest grossing stores in the mid-atlantic region. The property owners wanted them out for their grand outdoor pavilion/restaurant expansion, and didn't even offer them a new lease (it wasn't even the price was too high, none was offered) - now it looks like they bailed on on that whole scheme for now? And they end up just putting in HomeGoods?
Maybe Macy's should have welcomed Cracker Barrel instead of blocking them. Maybe they would have more business and wouldn't have to close early for lack of business.
5:21 - You are correct about JCPenney. I was told that personally by the store's General Manager. Salisbury JCPenney was #4 in the mid-Atlantic region in sales. When Rouse purchased the mall, they had grand schemes for that area and forced JCPenney out. At the time, JCPenney as a chain was struggling and I think Rouse made a calculated decision thinking JCPenney would not be around long-term as a chain. Of course, they've had a tremendous turn around so we see how that worked out. As for Macy's, I have it on good authority from a regional manager of Macy's (not the local store, but the Mid-Atlantic region) that the Salisbury store actually does quite well.

Thought they closed several years ago at Salisbury
I like Macy's shop there often
Macy's is now closing on Mon, Tues and Wednesday at 8pm. How inconvient is that for those of us that need to come after we get off work late.

I thought Salisbury would be among the closing stores.......there is hardly anything in the store.
