Crisfield History When George Bush Scared An Elephant

Did you know: in 1943 former President George H W Bush wanted to date a girl named Jackie Sterling and flew low in his military airplane over her house in Crisfield to impress her. He caused an elephant to get free from the circus that was in town. She was sitting on her porch at night and it ran through her front yard. This is a pic of one of the elephants named Rasha boarding a boat in Crisfield. Could u imagine looking out your window and seeing an elephant running around the streets of Crisfield? What a cool story

An interesting bit of local history. I wonder where she met GHWB.

That elephant was not around on 1940. The guy looks like a late seventies early eighties kid.

Those Crisfield boys were never very tough.

Georgie was stationed at Wallops Island Virginia back when it was a Naval Aviation Training Center. That puts him in the area. How he met this Sterling gal is something
someone else will have to answer. Is she still living? My guess is she was related to King Sterling a Crisfield musician and a talented pianist. King had an orchestra and would played at local dances. This jackie Sterling may have attended. Where there's music there's likely a soldier or sailor looking to meet local gals.
