Would You Like Salisbury To Go To Nighttime Downtown Christmas Parade?

Every year I always post the same question in the hope it will begin a discussion. Christmas is always synonymous with colorful lights and every year Salisbury ruins it by having it held in the daytime completely wasting the point of the lights.

The best parades around are the ones held at night and everyone knows it. The lights being shared for all to see. I went to the Salisbury Christmas Parade once and it bored the shit out of me after seeing how awesome Pocomoke pulled it off

We are supposed to be making our Downtown plaza a showcase and yet we keep holding our parades elsewhere.

I would be scared to death to walk in downtown Salisbury on any night. If the people trying to make downtown so great, just go downtown any morning around the time the flea market opens{5 AM} and see if you would want to meet any of those characters down a side street. The most bizarre is the gang of black teens on bicycles riding around.Of course I'm sure they were waiting for sunrise services.Seeing is believing-try it.

It would be nice but the blacks are too dangerous.

Where exactly downtown would you have it? No room for staging area and no room for parking. Yes it would be nice to have it at night but with as many entrants and watchers downtown is just not big enough. Keep the same route and try it one time at night and see how it goes.

I never go to Salisbury after dark.

They used to hold the parade downtown in the olden days. I remember one year when Santa fell through the well built float. One too many cookies I guess.

Yes,
but the police chief has too bring the thugs 100 pizzas to the hood to keep them away from downtown Da Bury.

Would be too cold & not as many people would attend.

I don't recall Salisbury ever having a night parade in the past.

When I wore a young boys clothing the Plaza or whatever it is, was Main Street. People watched the parade from the sidewalk in front of stores. That was before malls, when family's visited downtown. There were enough lighting and people to keep you warm at night with buildings blocking the elements. The floats were the real deal with thought and time invested. Everything was related to Christmas, not a car bearing red bows in the teeth of the grille. The courthouse lawn was decorated like fantasy land. Again everything was Christmas, not Wicomico Woody and such crap. But as they say, it was a time of innocence.Remember when March of Dimes raised money and you placed a dime beside another if you had it to donate. Dimes were side by side on the curb of the sidewalk as for as you could see or walk. Can you imagine that today? Some worthless punk would be the with a whisk pan and brush.

I think all Christmas Parades should be at night. I've not ever liked OC's parade because it was during the daytime. We regularly went to Berlin's and on several occasions Pocomoke's.

We had little Jakey Day involved in the lynching memorial walk. Does that count as a downtown parade...of idiots?

I too remember attending the parade downtown at night.

But that ship sailed when the courts took Christ out of Christmas, and took the frisk out of Stop and Frisk, and gave thugs (of ALL races) rights.

On the other hand, how do you think a Klan parade, a gay pride parade or a Muslim Day parade would go down? We either have equal rights (for law abiding citizens) or we have none at all.

But the REAL show stopper is, as has been pointed out above, no decent folks would be out and about after dark in Salisbury, daytime is bad enough.

Too dangerous in Salisbury to have it at night. Put it back to Saturday afternoons. Maybe churches would participate like they used to. I went to Salisbury's parade and there was not one entry that mentioned the birth of Christ. Very, very sad.

Anonymous said...

I suggest to eliminate it all together!

Anonymous said...

The sad part about the Salisbury parade is a lot of the entries did little effort to decorate their cars and themselves and some of it reminded of just business advertising..... not enough floats etc.....

next year may be the last chance to have the parade downtown. They sold almost all of the parking lots for buildings.

I agree; or like the previous post said, move it back to Saturday. It was so nice many, many years ago when it was downtown.

When that construction company had their convoy in the Salis. Christmas parade, at first I thought some traffic had cut their way in and were stuck in the middle of the parade. LOL! No signs, no decorations. Just 5-6 vehicles advertising their business.

That was when there was much more room for the cars and the floats. Rt. 13 and Rt. 50 weren't around or it wasn't a big deal to hold up traffic on Rt. 13 or Division Street. Whatever the main thoroughfare was at the time.

Another Dumb Ass has spoken! Church is over by 2pm on Sundays you moron!!

You put it on Saturday afternoon and you would have even less people attending you stupid idiot. It's bad enough that our whole weekend is ruined for a parade held on a Sunday afternoon. Saturdays are meant for an enjoyable night out on the town, not a parade. It should be a night parade during the week so we can have our weekends free. Monday nights are perfect for a parade.

I can assure you that I and many of my friends and family will not be attending a parade on a Saturday. I have better things to do an a Saturday. Douche Bag!

That should have never happened.

I saw that commercial wrinkled butt hauler Lifestar Ambulance in the parade. I won't be attending anymore!!

I say have it on a Wednesday or a Thursday night. I know there is a lot of crime in Salisbury, but with more people out and about I feel safer.

At least at night you can see the decorations and lighting like it was meant to be. I want the parade at night during the week.

Hey JT, cousin Michelle here. When I was growing up Cambridge held their Christmas parade on a Saturday at 11:00 am. Afterwards people would shop downtown. Great atmosphere. I really do miss those days. Yes, you can see the lights better at night but I really don't think that makes much of a difference. You can still appreciate them during the day.

Most folks commenting about safety also are spot on. Sadly, it's not always safe to be in certain areas after dark anymore.

You're the douche bag. If you have better things to do on a Saturday, then do it. Don't spoil it for the rest of the people that prefer a Saturday parade. People can be so ignorant and rude.

I WOULD DEFINITELY GO TO A PARADE IN DOWNTOWN SALISBURY AT NIGHT, AS LONG AS THE GOVERNOR HAS CALLED IN THE NATIONAL GUARD
