Back then if you were a thug you were harassed until you left town or incarcerated and people were free to enjoy their city.

I'd say it's much better now than it has been since I was working there 50 years ago. I worked at hess apparel (my father did the books for schleisner's) and watched downtown from the days where it was the place to be and watched it fall apart. I have to be honest that it was hard to accept when it came back. I never thought it would but I really like what's happening. I don't get out much, but it is a lot busier for these fridays and christmas and seasonal events than it was even when I started working downtown in 1961. The only complaint I have today is that they won't bring the jaycee's parade back downtown. I wish they would fix that. That was a wonderful tradition. It's not the same where they have it today. Does anyone know the jaycee's or know why they haven't come back downtown yet?

For real the Mayor City Council are just a few ppl that govern the city, but what about all that watch and say absolutely nothing to our young ppl. And you want to place the blame on a few ppl...blame your darn self you all have just as much responsibility than any other. STOP BEING A MOTOR MOUTH AND BE A MOTIVATOR

But seriously, why would anyone running for office vow to improve downtown? It actually is quite simple.Outside corporations have to be talked into investing in the plaza,as in outlets maybe? It cannot be done from within as every mayorial candidate over the last 40 or more years has found out.Other towns have vibrant downtown areas because they don't think like we do.Standing on the outside looking in is the answer.Send out requests nationally for interested bidders who have a clue. One might be surprised what turns up.One thing is for sure;that crap blocking the street needs to go before progress can be made.

Thug free.

It's but not butt
But you can kiss my butt

plain and simple, the thugs are in charge now and there's nothing anybody will do about it - just hand over your wallet and hope they don't blast you. between city, county and state police all being in this town you wouldn't think it would be like this, but I think the cops are just as afraid of them as the rest of us are.

These other local towns that are vibrant didn't get that way by "sending out requests nationally for interested bidders who have a clue."

I love it when know it all idiots show there true stupidity when they post things. I only wish they would leave their names.

If downtown Salisbury is listed or registered as "Historic" then how the Hell is Jake Day getting away with all these plans to modernize downtown? It's a waste of money and no one likes the "modern" look. How do you think Berlin, Snow Hill, Easton and St. Michaels gets their success? By capitalizing on their Historic features. Salisbury has one small block of History and the idiots that became our leaders tore everything down just to build a new building. Look at that big, ugly County Government Office Building right next to a historic courthouse? Look at that modern looking Health Departments. Look at that modern looking library? It was once a nice looking Armory. Who are these idiots that keep getting put on the planning and zoning commissions and approving these gawdy looking buildings. Has anyone got a brain that can figure out both buildings are out of place downtown?

And Jake Day is just as stupid!

Its free of AAs.

Good point.

Why do you want peoples names? Would you go kill them?

I agree that outside interests should invest in our downtown area if they choose to.That makes perfect sense & might get things moving.I think that's a great idea.A national campaign can be launched without local government approval.Smart money says we'll get a response from someone with a clue.
