Salisbury Making Major Moves at Monday's City Council Meeting

On the agenda for the upcoming City Council Meeting Monday, November 14th are a couple of items that begin the separation from the past and a big step forward into the future.

First, the City Council is set to accept a bid for the City's Legal Service from Cockey, Brennan and Maloney, thus terminating it's legal representation with existing City Solicitor Mark Tilghman.  Mr. Tilghman was brought in amid a power struggle between the Terry Cohen and Debbie Campbell controlled council when they decided to pass a charter amendment to place the City Solicitor under the management of the Council.  This decision was reversed under the Jake Day controlled council.

Second, the City Council is set to approve the sale of Parking Lot #10 to the same developer of the marina.  Parking Lot #10 in Route 13 between the District Court Building and Royal Farms, where the flea market is every weekend.  This continual focus on developing parking lots is a key component to Mayor Day's philosophy of growing the city up, not out.  With a City Council that embraces this philosophy, things will begin moving quickly.

Certainly there are those who will not be happy with the selection of Cockey, Brennan & Maloney as the new City Solicitor.  They are also the same people who are stuck in the past and are perfectly fine with big empty parking lots.

Jt where are all of the people who have to go to the court going to park? The court only has parking for about a dozen cars. Selling lots to encourage business to come down town is great but where are the people going to park. My business wanted to move our employees from lot 1 parking to the garage as lot 1 is sold now and we were told just this week that the garage is full.

They can take the fucking Welfare BUS.

You cannot expect people to frequent businesses that don't offer close and convenient parking.

The ultimate goal is to remove all parking from downtown, so that you will have to park in the garage. (sarcasm yes, but at the same time it seems true)

Isn't that the point of the garage? So that people can park there for court? It's not that far of a walk.

As many times as Robin Cockey has been involved in law suits against the city he shouldn't be the City Solicitor. Wake up people!
