Evaluating the 2016 Election

As Democrats and the political left in America are picking up the pieces of what is left of their party, stepping back and taking stock of how we got here as a nation to the Election of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States.
Trump’s message was simplified, "dumbed down" as political elites would say.  He and both Bernie Sanders tapped into a frustration in different ways and in different political spheres.  Trump reached the middle, working class, while Sanders reached the millennial, idealistic and core left leaning faction of politics.  These groups combined had some common elements such as unfair trade deals, bank bailouts, political corruption and typical anti-establishment sentiments.  The campaigns of both of these candidates threw a spoke into the wheel of the “normal” election cycle.

Trump was a political outsider, Sanders was often an island in the Senate.

Trump benefitted from name recognition, outrageous comments, a crowded 16 candidate field and a cheesy hat.  Against all odds and well funded opponents Trump won the nomination.

Sanders raised a ton of money but just could not get over the rigged Super-Delegate system the DNC had in place.  When the man won a state and then Hillary would come out ahead in Delegates, just did not seem fair.

When the General Election campaign began Clinton seemed to be in the driver’s seat with funding, favorable media coverage and a well oiled Democratic ground game.  Trump struggled to get support as key political figures such as Mitt Romney, the Bush family and long list of “Never Trumpers” refused to endorse and support his candidacy.

Both had the cloud of scandals and never ending October surprises.  Trump’s Access Hollywood tape, the list of women claiming he assaulted them, lawsuits and of course his Twitter account.  Hillary had the never ending email debacle, Clinton Foundation contributions and her failures as Secretary of State which have lead to the disasters in the Middle East.  Many felt she owed too many people too many favors, from the boardrooms to the throne room of Arab Kings, hundreds of millions of dollars flowed into their pockets.

With skewed polls and favorable media coverage, Hillary ultimately failed to inspire key demographics for Democrats - Hispanics and the African-American vote.  She severely underperformed and never got enough traction, even with President Obama and the First Lady campaigning on her behalf.  On her own Hillary could not fill a High School gym.

Trump never executed a traditional ground game.  He would fly in and fill arenas and stadiums with crowds of up to 25,000.  As constant negative media coverage grew, so did his support.

As we all saw on Election night Trump continually picked up key battleground states when the voting was done.  The assumption and criticism that Trump voters were racist, bigoted middle age white men is simply not true.  Trump is far from perfect but Clinton brought a lot of baggage.  America simply decided Trump’s imperfections were easier to bear than her baggage.  Her loss had nothing to do with her being a woman and more to do with her being a Clinton.

Ultimately this entire election cycle ended two political dynasties - the Bushes and the Clintons.  A new political dynamic is afoot in American politics, with Trump as the poster child.  As Republicans control the White House and Congress for at least two years, Democrats are in the unique situation of deciding which direction they will go as a Party.  With a small bench, it could be a decade or more before they make a comeback.  It does not appear another Obama is in the making, but they need to find one soon.  If they continue moving their policies to the left, America is not going to go in that direction.

This is an interesting view. However, I would say the Democrats are in this state of disarray because of Obama. He is personally popular, but his personal popularity did not translate to election victories outside of his own. He lost the House then the Senate. The electorate, obviously, didn't want 4 more years of Obama or Hillary would have won. The one poll that has been pretty consistent is that the country is going in the wrong direction. Obama is the engineer of that train and it finally came off the rails on Tuesday night.

We know of 2 hard core union life long democrats who when both said about a year ago they were in Trump's corner we knew Clinton would never pull it off. The democrats by going too far left have lost key voter blocks. I don't think they will ever recover. The country is mostly Christian (or so they claim and the democrat platform goes against all the Lord's word. We are going to see more and more defections of democrats into the Republican party. Most people have a conscience and they will realize by being a democrat they put politics before God and if you are a real Christian you can't live with that over your head. Real true Christians do not pick and choose what parts of the Bible they want to follow. It's all or nothing. Take your pick whether it's same sex marriage, the killing of unborn babies but keeping them alive just so their organs can be harvested then letting them die on hard cold tables is beyond the comprehension of any real Christian. Real Christians do not vote democrat. This is not debatable. If you are a democrat voter you can lie until the cows come home about being a Christian but you are just lying and proving to God and all that you are a sinner of the worst kind. The acceptance of homosexuality. That's not to say gays are to be made fun of or ostracized but we don't have to approve of their way of life and we can pray God has mercy on their souls. The list is endless of the sins of the democrats.

"Dear Democrats and Liberals.
I'm noticing that a lot of you aren't graciously accepting the fact that your candidate lost. In fact you seem to be posting even more hateful things about those of us who voted for Trump.
Some of you are apparently "triggered". Because you are posting how "sick" you feel about the results.
How did this happen you ask?
You created "us" when you attacked our freedom of speech.
You created "us" when you attacked our right to bear arms.
You created "us" when you attacked our Christian beliefs.
You created "us" when you constantly referred to us as racists.
You created "us" when you constantly called us xenophobic.
You created "us" when you told us to get on board or get out of the way.
You created "us" when you forced us to buy health care and then financially penalized us for not participating.
You created "us" when you allowed our jobs to continue to leave our country.
You created "us" when you attacked our flag.
You created "us" when you confused women's rights with feminism.
You created "us" when you began to immaculate men.
You created "us" when you decided to make our children soft.
You created "us" when you decided to vote for progressive ideals.
You created "us" when you attacked our way of life.
You created "us" when you decided to let our government get out of control.
You created "us" the silent majority.
And we became fed up and we pushed back and spoke up.
And we did it with ballots, not bullets.

Great summation JT!!! You look at the actors, professional sports players and coaches, music performers, and college kids....NONE HAVE HAD TO WORK FOR A DAMN THING!!!! Yet they believe we want or value their opinions.....really? They are getting rich out of the working men and women's pockets, just look at any of the above mentioned ticket prices, NOT CHEAP! These cities that have rioting ongoing need to allow the Police Forces to use whatever means needed to gain control of the situations and restore peace.

First of all, when the Hell has Susan Parker been right on anything? Secondly people, just remember that nothing in politics is forever.
Third Donald Trump is either a fluke or a genius. He can't be both.
Time will tell. Don't get me wrong, I'm overjoyed that Hillary is defeated. Trump will be a great President as long as he doesn't cave to the GOP power structure, and if he knows how they can work to destroy him.

This election has nothing to do with Christianity. That is obvious with a devil in the White House that you people put there. Donald Trump hates everyone that is not a white male. Secondly, why are you all still tying to put down Mr. President Obama? I'll tell you why because a black man won the white house for 8 years and you still can't understand it. Well understand this, all of the rioting that is going on is being done mostly by white people not blacks. Lastly, who the hell told any of you morons that democrats are not Christians. This just goes to show how ignorant you are. Trump is going to be impeached which is just as well because he knows nothing about politics let alone running a country. No need to respond because this blog is dead. It is obviously for poor white trash anyway. Goodbye.
