Comment Worthy A Post On SPD Officers Leaving

They are losing officers at an alarming rate and Mayor Day has no clue how to fix it. He continues to say the public loves Barbara Duncan. The reason I bring this up is what public loves Chief Duncan. The public that has no issue losing hundreds of thousands of tax dollars lost on training officers that leave the agency. One Officer fresh out of the academy left and went with Wicomico County Sheriff's Office. The man was there a matter of days and observed the low morale and said adios. S.P.D. has lost many quality police officers. Some have actually taken lower paying jobs. On that point money solves nothing with the police. It does make life at home a little better but if your like stinks at Headquarters it really means nothing.

The two names one constantly mentioned when asking why these officers are leaving is Duncan and Kolb. Kolb is Chief Duncan's hatchet man. I think Kolb was a good officer. The sad fact is some people just can not handle power well and he is one of them.

I have been told morale is a personal issue. Bull Shit leadership 101 you must secure the faith of the boots on the ground or you lose the battle. By no means am I saying baby them, but at the same time take care of them and they will take care of you. Once a leader has lost the troops it is an up hill battle to win the troops back over. Sound familiar Jake it should. Your back ground has to be screaming at you at this point. Enough Said

EXCELLENT JT!!!!! Jake Day is actually clueless as to how to get this corrected...you are right people don't want to be babied, they want to be treated like mature and respected individuals. A good leader doesn't need to blow his own horn, he treats his troops right and respects them and they in turn support the leaders directions. It ain't happening in the S P D or S F D.....If Jake thinks it is....then just as I said he's clueless and in over his head.

Perfectly said JT. Now why hasn't someone or the "masses" sent Jake Day a message through his social media to fix this. I have heard of a great candidate that will get in there and do just what needs to be done and will quickly EARN respect and not demand it. Someone that will put their boots on the ground with the officers and you will see an immediate change. If Jake was a true leader and military man himself, he should see the problem and fix it even if it takes getting her to leave with pride.

Jake day should have fired the spd pizza chef on DAY 1 he is as clueless as cupcake Ireton whats next the spd chief has thugs over to her house for a slumber party???

The problem started with Barrie Tilghman and continued with Jim Ireton. Finally Jim Ireton hired someone after he found the balls to fire Alan Webster, but he hired the wrong person.

He also hired the wrong person for the Salisbury Fire Department and then appointed another Hack that he didn't even want. The Fire Department is losing Paramedic left and right and Rich Hoppes is replacing them with firemen or Paramedics that can't get a job somewhere else. In other words the Salisbury Fire Department is scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Comment worthy ?
65.7 Million people in the USA do not speak English.

Day reached out to veteran officers when he first took office. He was set straight and did nothing. So at this point it is on him. Duncan is a poor excuse for a police chief, very poor communication and people skills. Kolb is a ass kissing pussy, always has been.

She has absolutely no personality... met her when she first came to town.. dull, disinterested, and seemingly aloof--

She needs to go asap.. but that won't happen

Somebody do something before Salisbury sinks lower than it already has

Maybe she needs to recognize what she is doing and try a gracefully exit before it's too late.

Very sad, Chief Dykes is rolling in his grave. SPD needs leadership!

Somerset County Sheriff's Office per their facebook page is looking for two maybe three. Salisbury City has been a good source for good officers I'm sure if they fill out an app Somerset will welcome more of Salisbury's best.

Rome is burning. Sadly we cling to things that are bad for too long. Sadly Chief Duncan has lost the support of her agency backbone. Those who sit in an Ivory Tower have a hard fall when it finally happens. Many quality officers have left that agency and for good reason. When you fell safer on the streets then you do at head Quarters some is amiss. I do not work there but know many of the officers that have left. They ran that kid Aita off and he is doing extremely well else where. Sign number one leadership is lacking. The latest round of officers that left where all excellent patrol officers.

This has been an agency that has gone outside since Colburne Dykes passed away. Chief Dykes had the respect of the men and women. One either leads by respect or fear. Trust me police officers do not respond well to fear or threats. Threats by the Mayor and Duncan to retaliate against officers speaking out about poor leadership has fallen on deaf ears. If Day or Duncan ever worked the road they would know this. The men and women who go out daily 24-7 and deal with the issues on the streets know their job. A Chief who sits and answers her cell phone when trying to give positive or constructive criticism to one of her troops tells them that very minute you do not mean shit to her. She does not do press because she is insecure in her leadership. Sadly Jake is the same he does not have his feet under him on these issues. One can not lead by fear period police will never respond to this is a positive way. Psychology 101.

Jake Hire the likes of Ivan Barkley or Mark Tyler. No Troopers or Baltimore City guys who do not know crap about the Bury and what you need to bring this ship back on course. Cheryl Rantz would be another great choice. King another awesome option. The top three are washed up they lost the team. You need some serious house cleaning.

Sometimes you need an outside look to make a change. Ivan couldn't handle the job that's why he didn't get it. He got the Delmar job because of the town manager and he are tight. Cheryl, please yiubthink the officer will respect someone who is a part of the current administration and looks like a soup sandwich in uniform. King would be great but he is too young and not enough administration Experience. Why not a trooper. Mike Lewis was a trooper and a low ranking one. There is a reason a steeet cop can lead an agency. They know the officers and the streets. Barb is a good chief on her resume but that resume can't relate to the street officers. Kolb was never a good street cop and is smart but he is a yes man to barb and has no spine and will not stand up for his men. Dave is dumb as a stump and has gotten to his rank through attrition and doing what barb says for him to do. Ask anyone in the police department or the city for that fact. Dumb and clueless when it comes to agency and city policy. Here's a fact. A county wide police force led by Lewis would clean up the city like they have the county.

RUN BULL RUN RUN RUN RUN

You tell on yourself and motivations, trooper...Meienschein is smarter than Kolb; Kolb is not that bright and definitely not a yes man; if King doesn't have enough administration experience as a CID lieutenant how did Mike Lewis as an interdiction sergeant?; and Barb is an awful leader, even on paper...you just want another fluffy retirement gig for another overpaid, out of touch retired state Trooper like Dave Owens at WCSO. Say what it is...give me and my buddies a golden parachute on the name of MSP. #LeeStevens4Chief

Anonymous said...

Not a Trooper but thanks. Who is Lee Stevens and what are his qualifications. I looked it up. There is a reason retired troopers are chiefs of police and sheriffs. Training and know how. 13 sheriffs in Maryland are retired troopers. How many former Salisbury officers go on to be chiefs? Being a lieutenant of a criminal investigation division with 12 detectives who can't even handle their own part one crimes does not make you chief material. Jason is a great officer and leader but compared to a MSP lieutenant and or captain who manages a division of 300 people and handles major disasters and events he is not ready. Perhaps if he is a major or asst chief for a while then yeah. But let's face it Day is hiring a new chief from the outside and there are more young, educated, knowledgeable retired troopers and commanders from other large agencies that are more qualified that will be chosen from. The last two times that the city has hired a chief a trooper has been in the mix and your officers whine and cry "we don't want a trooper". So how has that worked for you? The city would have been in a better place if they had hired Leatherbury instead of Barb. Look where he is now, head of the DNR.

Anonymous said...

You sound like a disgruntled and not so happy officer. Please tell us why you are both happy with barb and kolb. You are quick to bash these troopers and Dave Owens. Why are you so against people like troopers who retire and take over other agencies. They can retired at age 42 and like mike did and still have the ability to contribute to their communities. If retired troopers are not doing a great job how is mike keep getting re-elected. Us county residents love him and your officers have left to come work for him. Embrace a change don't fight against it. It is a loosing battle. You only have to go to the concil meetings to see who your next chief is going to be.

Where's the comment I sent this morning about why running the Princess Anne MSP barrack doesn't qualify you to lead an urban community policing mission? JT, are you in the tank with the rest to bring him in? Did you know that almost 75% of MSP troopers make Sergeant in their career? They give rank like it's candy at Halloween. How many troopers at the Princess Anne barrack? Less than any of the divisions at SPD. So be careful what you ask for because a great rural cop doesn't necessarily make an ideal urban police chief. Think about it.

Anonymous said...

HAS ANYONE TAKEN A HARD LOOK AT MSP LATELY. THEY ARE HIRING ANYONE WTH.

Anonymous said...

Where do you get these percentages? 1430 Troopers and only 163 sergeants state wide that doesn't equal 75% and try testing for rank with MSP it is no joke. Let alone getting promoted and having to drive to pg county from the lower shore on your own time.

Ha that's funny. Salisbury Urban? What a joke. Community policing Mission. Another joke. Salisbury needs strong police work not more free pizza and hugs. One only has to look to the county and see what a strong leader, Mike Lewis, who believes you put criminals in cuffs not serve them pizza.
