Child killed in OC after being struck by boat propeller

A 9-year-old child was killed after being struck from a propeller after falling from a boat off the waters in Ocean City on Wednesday, officials said.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources police confirmed the incident on Twitter.

The incident occurred in the Sinepuxent Bay shortly before 3 p.m. when a 9-year-old boy and an 11 year old fell off a boat, said Candy Thomson, public information officer for the Maryland Natural Resources Police.

“They fell overboard and they were hit by a propeller,” Thomson said.

The younger child died from the injuries sustained from the propeller, and the older child received lacerations.

A steel mesh surrounding the prop would prevent this without impeding the performance of the boat.

Says someone who apparently obtained his engineering degree from Obama University.

Clearly you have never been fishing on the Shore before. Steel mesh over the propeller is more dangerous than the chance of falling out. You can get the anchor rope wrapped around it or it get the trap clogged with grass. Yes you can get grass caught in the propeller if you're in and out of the islands along the bay where you can only go at high tide.

This could have been prevented had the child not been on the boat. I'm sorry but black people can't swim. That's just a fact.

I was on the scene and he was not black. More of a cocoa or dark caramel but definitely African-American.
