Great comment On Weekend OC Issues From Witness

I saw the crowds and riot and detoured around it all during our round trip up and down the boardwalk. I was with my family and children and kept a 2 block distance from the riots. I was determined not to let that ruin our plans, and it didn't. I was also with friends and their children on their first time visit to OC. They were frightened and I was embarrassed. And I've been to OC for dozens of summers, sometimes over bike and senior week and never saw something like this, blah blah blah. It started around 10 PM as hundreds of loitering drunk, cursing, boisterous, college-aged people in hip-hop attire were in such large numbers they were blocking the trams which were shut down because of it. Most loiterers were around 9th st as we walked south. Half of the loiterers were female. It became clear that the loiterers were disorderly ones and not the walkers regardless of their age/attire. The aroma of pot smoke and liquor was everywhere, and 15 minutes didn't go by between 13th and 1st streets that we didn't smell it. Some tourists and children on the boardwalk were noticeably scared by these crowds but they made no unkind actions to my group and never blocked our way. I didn't feel intimidated like I've often felt at VA Beach with small groups of males. For the uninformed, there are lots of young children with parents on the boardwalk at midnight. A late night at the boardwalk is a favorite past time for many families.

At midnight we were done with the pier area and headed back north on the boardwalk. Every few minutes another police car was seen heading north on Baltimore Ave. I knew things must have escalated and they did. Around 5th street I could see blue lights, police dogs, police all around, and sitting men in handcuffs. The boardwalk was closed. The police were nice and told us how to safely detour. In the distance I saw a man run at another man and he was flipped in the air like a cartwheel and officers pinned him down. We began our detour then. At Washington Ave looking north, we got a glimpse of the riot. We saw just the top of hundreds of people's heads and heard a dynamic constant crowd roar like what is heard in a football stadium when a touchdown is made. Watching this on TV and video doesn't accurately depict the true experience of this. A sizable constitution of the voices was female. I could detect laughter and anger in the female voices which was very strange to me. It was surreal and lots of thoughts raced through my head at that moment. In my mind this is what hell sounds like. This event was pure evil. I could sense this was planned and I wondered if this was a practice for things to come. We don't live in a war zone, dictatorship, or a depression. So that crowd roar had a profound effect on me as far as our nation's future. At the time I thought maybe my those emotions would pass but I think the same thing 2 days later. We eventually took a bus back and that was the end of it. The following days the city was normal again.

The next day I found out during the riots someone through a truckload of city blue plastic trash drums into the bay and they were washing up all over the place along with trash. I saw some of that on the beach in the morning. Many locals have told me the police have relaxed their enforcement over the last 5-6 years. Also, there is an obvious business blackout as far as reporting this riot. This is the only outlet thus far that has reported it. The public needs to know. If I was trapped, injured, or incurred damages by this event in any way - I would take action against OC and its supporting publications for failing to notify the public of this very real danger. Traditional and transient/resort cities need riot threat likelihood forecasts displayed as prominent as weather forecasts. So here I'm lighting a candle and not just cursing the darkness. I will return but I won't come come on days this college event is likely. I will also recommend OC with the aforementioned event caveat.

Business people who pay rent will now have a valid reason NOT to pay rent.Regardless of any contract, the conditions are relevant to normal unobstructed vehicular and pedestrian traffic flow.If this nonsense created a major loss of business I would absolutely not expect to pay the previously established amount. If families either left town because of this or refused to go to OC because of this businesses will be hurting.

Social Media will be the death of us all... these punks sit at home on their phones waiting for the next "event" to show up at and cause discourse. They would rather complain about their circumstance and how unfair it is than to dress nicely and apply for jobs...

Because they crave violence 12:51. It's in their blood. They are inherently violent. They need to admit and address their unconscious violent nature.

It's not like any of them have to take off work to be there, when their cousin in the White House takes care of them all.

This site should be accurately named, "Lower Eastern Shore Opinions" as it contains less than 5% news, and is monitored/edited by one person who feels as if he speaks for the whole of the shore... smh
