Princess Anne teacher, students raise carbon monoxide awareness

An elementary school teacher and her students were recognized by Princess Anne Town Commissioners for spreading a message about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Toni Stewart-Brown, a fourth-grade science and social studies teacher at Princess Anne Elementary School in Princess Anne, led an initiative earlier this spring that raised money toward the purchase of carbon monoxide detectors for homes of students at the school that lacked the devices.

Brown, recently named 2016 Teacher of the Year at her school, also traveled with 11 students in her class to a recent meeting of Princess Anne Commissioners to discuss the importance of placing detectors or alarms in homes.
