Neighbors oppose Delmar truck weigh station expansion

Residents of the Leonard Mill Pond area are opposed to the possible expansion of the truck weigh station – a proposal that was also met with adamant objection in the 1980s.

Members of the Leonard’s Mill Pond Collaborative will be at a May 11 State Highway Administration gathering, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Delmar Elementary School, where the expansion will be discussed.

Phillip LeBel, volunteer coordinator for the collaborative, wrote a letter to Gov. Larry Hogan, outlining reasons the weigh station should not be expanded in the present location, and also asked Ernie Colburn, director of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, and Chamber members, to attend.

As usual, the SHA has made no mention of financial compensation during the planning phase (unless I missed it).Every home owner who in any way shape or form impacted by this change should be given a sum to compensate for the inconvenience, more if land loss is involved.Just throwing it out there,$10,000 per household would convince the locals that the SHA has the best of intentions. The meeting should include that possibility. If not, someone attending the meeting should indeed bring it up.I don't live anywhere near the scales, but right is right.

Quit boo hoo'ing, you live along a major US highway, near a car dealership and gas station. You should be used to noise and I can't see how this will affect you otherwise.

Don't like it, move.

10:24 You should appreciate people that work ,It's their taxes that provide food and shelter for you and your litter.

It doesn't matter what the nearby residents desire or say. The government doesn't care in the least. Any hearing is merely a smoke screen. If the State of MD wants it to be, it will happen. Sad but true.

I'm in favor of expansion....my wife and children drive these highways and I want trucks in good repair and drivers well rested....doesn't anyone read about drivers without the proper amount of rest and the consequences??? Yes it can happen with car drivers but these huge rigs with gross weight of 80,000 lbs. plus cause so much damage.

It's just like the Chicken Houses. The idiots bought or rented a house in the AG District. Guess what, you knew that when you moved in. Tough Titty Said the Kitty!!

Just like the Weigh Station, those idiots moved next to a highway. Tough Titty!
