Drunken man assaults police officer on Chincoteague

A Chincoteague man pleaded guilty to being drunk in public and assaulting a police officer.

Chincoteague police spotted a man walking down the center of Maddox Boulevard at 10:30 p.m. When the officer approached Dewey Hall, 50, the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol.

When he tried to get Hall to move to the side of the road, he became belligerent, said Accomack County Commonwealth’s Attorney Gary Agar.

The officer arrested him for being drunk in public.

Hall became even more angry and unmanageable as he was put into a car and taken to the police station. He kicked the officer on his knee and his shin and it took five officers to subdue him, Agar said.

“The magistrate could not even hold a hearing because he was so unruly,” said Agar.
