Incident: Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
Date of Incident: 2 March 2016
Location: Seminole Boulevard, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Takiesha Renee Steward, 35, Salisbury, MD
Narrative: On 2 March 2016 at 9:05 PM a deputy stopped a vehicle operated by Takiesha Steward after she was clocked on radar at twice the speed limit on Seminole Boulevard. Upon stopping Steward, she exited her vehicle and stumbled towards the deputy’s patrol car. The deputy also observed that Steward needed to use her own vehicle to maintain her balance. After detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and other physical indicators, the deputy began sobriety testing. Following testing, the deputy placed Steward under arrest for DUI.
The deputy also discovered that Steward was transporting a 3 month old infant in a car seat that she was babysitting. During a MVA query, the deputy uncovered that Steward’s privilege to drive had been both suspended and revoked by the State of Maryland and that she had two previous convictions in DUI related cases in 2013 and 2015. Additionally it was discovered that Steward has a pending DUI case from an arrest on 3 Feb 2016.
During subsequent processing, Steward refused to submit to a breath test.
The deputy transported Steward to the Central Booking Unit where she was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. Following an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Steward in the Detention Center in lieu of $25,000.00 bond.
