Doverdale Overdose Deaths Press Release

For immediate release:

Salisbury, MD:  Today I received the sad news that 2 individuals died as the result of an overdose in my neighborhood with another individual being hospitalized.  Our family wishes to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to the families suffering this terrible loss and we continue to keep the one individual who survived in our prayers.

Drug use and addiction has become a terrible scar on neighborhoods throughout our country as it is destroying lives and families.  Children at ages way to young are being exposed to the harsh realities of addictions and living first hand through hell with parents and family members suffering addictions.

Last night at the Salisbury City Council Work Session Mayor Day advised us of a forthcoming budget amendment that will be requesting the start of and coordination of a Task Force proposed by Councilwoman Laura Mitchell and will include the Wicomico County States Attorneys Office, Salisbury Police Department and various other professionals in our community to determine what are some the immediate and long term steps we can take to address various forms of addictions.

I believe that those who struggle with addictions need the full support of our community and the strong guidance of intensive treatments.  These are not situations we can simply fix in a week or two, we must have long term strategies for support and treatment.  If you have an individual who is suffering from addiction, I strongly encourage you to seek professional guidance on how to get immediate help and intervention into the situation.

On the other side, we need an all hands on deck strategy in targeting the distribution and supply network of the drugs flowing in our community.  We need a strong multi-jurisdictional, multi-state approach to dropping the hammer on those manufacturing, storing and distributing narcotics. I am in full support of the Mayor’s strategies and focus on this issue and truly wish there was more that we can do.

From a community standpoint I implore parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, to have these hard conversations with the children that you influence in your lives and the importance of making good, healthy life choices so that they do not end up as a statistic in the news.

Mr. Boda the City Police do not have a dedicated drug unit! You are now a Councilman do you have any idea as to why? SPD is probably the only municipal Police Dept. in a city the size of Salisbury without a drug unit. These deaths prove it makes no sense. My condolences to the families involved.

You just don't get it, drug addicts will only seek treatment to avoid a jail sentence. Stop the flow of drugs into the country, problem solved. Unfortunately to much money is made and stopping the flow into the USA will never happen. It's a vicious circle.

Mr. Boda and 6:59....to, too, two.

Will Beat cops make a difference? There are just so many street corners, back them up by cruiser's constantly in the areas that are known hotbeds,

I question if it can ever be stopped because whenever one particular drug is all but eliminated another designer drug takes it's place.

You are very misinformed. I know several people that received jail sentences due crimes they committed after they were unable to find treament for various reasons. Maybe you shouldn't make derogatory comments about a whole group of people and a topic that you obviously don't know much about.

Why comment on something you obviously don't know about? I know many addicts personally that have tried to get into treatment and couldn't find a place to accept them.

9:58 and 10:01 ANYONE can receive treatment when THEY are the ones paying for it. Pound sand, freeloaders. WHY is it the taxpayer's responsibility to treat your weak minded problems? It is not, and there should be ZERO taxpayer funded treatment options available. Such a joke.

9:58 dang liberal, probably Bushes fault.

Just because your family member couldn't get in to treatment facility doesn't make your statement true 9:58, 9:57 or 10:01. Do twenty-five yours in the criminal justice system then tell how misinformed I am.

Sad however until treatment is offered freely more will died I got a drug problem and I want help but the waiting list is so long and although I don't want to die I am at a point where my body needs the drugs even knowing a bad package is out I will go out today to cop and pray I live.

NA meetings which are free and open to the public are available to anyone seeking treatment so to say treatment isn't available is completely false. I am so sick and tired of the no treatment available excuse. That's all that it is-an excuse used by addicts because they aren't interested in quitting. The bottom line-if you want to quit and are serious about it you don't need any treatment anyway.

There needs to be cover drug buys in the" Bury" where is the STATES DRUG TASK FORCE.???

7:03 Bad package ? What is a good package ?

Treatment is such a joke, if a person wants to do drugs, they will and if they don't want to, they wont. Some will say it's not that simply, but they would be over-complicating the issue. Same with cigarettes, just don't lite one up if you want to stop. Quit blaming others or lack of "treatment". So stupid.

WOW....finally elected to office and already has the political speak.
How many decades has this war on drugs been going on and suddenly it can be cured locally. Lol
Close the source....go Trump!!

JT, is there any chance the Salisbury Grinch will ever come back?

Hey idiot, you're dead wrong. There is almost no treatment available regardless of who's paying unless you can spent $30,000 a month for 2 years. Not many of those people here in Salisbury. As for taxpayer money, you are really oblivious. Taxpayers are already paying for it at 10 times the cost...in jails. By the way are you downing a cold brew right now? You might have a problem too, just a different drug.

Why not use your name may be some one can tell you about a family member who is using because in most cases in only comes to light when something bad happens.
