Glenn Frey and Doug Henley launched the Eagles in the early '70s. Both were talented guys and it didn't hurt that they were Linda Ronstadts backup band. They were into that LA country scene that came out of the head of Gram Parsons, the only difference being was that Gram Parsons could create lyrics and tunes much more evocative than Frey or Henley ever could. The band got by with several hits but soon became stale until they enlisted Joe Walsh primo lead guitarist from the legendary James Gang. It was his input that resurrected the Eagles. Frey was in the right place at the right time. He had talent, no doubt. If you want to look at the success of the Eagles in the proper perspective however, consider Joe Walsh.
