City Clerk Releases Campaign Financials - Jake Day's fundraising is top notch

On Wednesday, the City Clerk's Office uploaded a 63 page document which included the Campaign financials of the candidates in this year's election for Mayor and City Council.

Update: Marvin Ames from District 2 filed his financials on 10/28, reporting that he raised less than $600.00. He paid a $20.00 fine.

The big story here is that the next Mayor, Jake Day, aggressively built up quite the war chest with $24,860 raised in contributions. So obviously if there had been an opponent, Jake could have easily raised $50,000 to $60,000 and no doubt would have had the ground game to match. This is likely the reason Mayor Ireton did not run and had hoped for an unopposed race for District 4 on the council, which we will get to that race in due time.

So instead of various businesses, TV stations, radio stations and Clear Channel's outdoor advertising receiving tens of thousands of dollars, local charities will likely receive some much needed funding.

So here are the highlights of each campaign's financials.

District 1.
Shanie Shields raised $2,485.00 from 16 contributors including former Mayor Barrie Tilghman, her husband Matt Tilghman and she also received the endorsement from the Maryland Realtors and a check for $250.00.

April Jackson raised $560.00 and had 1 maximum contributor in Toni Blount from Florida.

Sarah Halcott raised $320. Her largest contributors were Dorothy Truitt and Dawn Halcott at $100 a piece. She did receive an In-Kind Service from Joni Mitchell for photography.

District 2
Keyvan Aarabi had one contributor for $200 which is likely his parents and the same contributor who offered an In-Kind Contribution for printing at $40.00. Aarabi did have expenses of $875.35, which may be due to the fact he either did not record his personal loans to the campaign or he paid for the items himself where it should have been included under the In-Kind Contribution category.

Muir Boda raised $3,090.00 from 28 different contributors with 2 individuals contributing twice. Boda had some fairly well known names on his list including Delegate Mary Beth Carozza (who donated $50.00 twice) County Council President John Cannon (who also donated twice). School Board Member Joe Ollinger contributed the maximum of $250.00 as did a couple others including the Maryland Realtors. Other notable names on Boda's list include Julie Brewington of the Republican Central Committee, President of the Republican Club Shawn Jester, President of the Democratic Club Josh Hastings, Wicomico County Council Member Marc Kilmer, former Salisbury City Councilwoman Lynn Cathcart and two local attorneys M.J. Caldwell and William Hall. Boda himself provided In-Kind Contributions of $300.00.

Justin Gregoli reported that he did not raise or spend over $600 and was not required to file a disclosure.

Marvin Ames did not file his paperwork on time and will likely be subjected to fines.

District 3
Jack Heath raised $5,910 and some contributions from notable individuals in our community including Col. Robert Cook, Former City Councilwoman Lynn Cathcart, County Council Member John Hall's campaign, former County Council Member David MacLeod, Brad and Palmer Gillis, former County Executive Candidate Ron Alessi, Billye & Tony Sarbanes, Ed Wilgus, The Maryland Realtors and a few LLCs that will likely draw the ire of Mayor Ireton. Jack himself has loaned $1,250.00 to his own cause.

Tim Spies placed a note on his contributor list that stated, "I will be returning all donations to the contributors. This one's on me folks. Thanks for your support!" Tim did receive an In-Kind contribution of Photography from Rob Norton for $250.00 and under loans stated that all expenditures are on loan from the candidate, which according to him will be Tim footing the bill.

Kevin Lindsay raised $370.00 and received $200.00 for an In-Kind Contribution for signs.

District 4
Mayor Ireton released a message that he would accept individual contributions of no more than $20.00 and contributions from couples of no more than $40.00. He was true to his word. Notable names on the list of his contributors are Phil Tilghman, Martin Neat, former County Councilman David MacLeod, Democrat Central Committee Member Harry Basehart, Pete Evans and everyone's favorite come here Liberal - Mike Pretl.

Roger Mazzullo raised $3,450. Notable names on Roger's list include Realtor Virginia "Ginny" Malone and her husband Robert, Michael and Stacy Weisner, Ed Wilgus, Bill Martin and Mr. Paul (Okerblaum). Roger's campaign is in debt to his wife Mary to the tune of $2,898.00, which will likely be paid back.

District 5
Laura Mitchell raised less than $600.00 and did not have to file a disclosure.

It has been an interesting campaign so far, with the big headline here of the next Mayor showing his fundraising capabilities which likely scared off an wannabes. The other note is that one Candidate, Marvin Ames, did not submit his campaign financials to the City Clerk on time. Marvin had better get it in because the fines are $20 a day for the first five days and $10 a day after that up to $250.

Here is the city code on that:
A.  There shall be a late filing fee for each financial disclosure statement which is not filed
within the time prescribed.  The fine shall be twenty dollars ($20.00) per day for the first five days and ten dollars ($10.00) per day thereafter for each date that the report is overdue.  The maximum fine to apply to any one report shall be two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00).  Weekends and holidays shall be excluded in the above time computations.

"Tim Spies placed a note on his contributor list that stated, "I will be returning all donations to the contributors. This one's on me folks. Thanks for your support!"

l) Shouldn't Spies list Amount and Name of contributors he will be returning money to, in order not to appear underhanded. Saying you got donations but are returning all, don't mean its so.

2) Actually I expect he received no contributions and Tim's main man Albero told Tim to pretend he received boocoos of cash.

I know Jake has it in the bag which is not good for Salisbury but at this point I hope Ireton gets spanked and sent packing. He has been playing office for too long.

"This is somewhat embarrassing, isn’t it?
It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching, or one of the links below, can help."

This is what I get when I clicked on the link????

I guess someone told them to take it down.

I was thinking the same thing. I like Tim and I want him to win, but I think he got very lazy on this election. He had some competition so he should have worked harder.

One of Jake Day's Contributors is Friends of Jim Ireton for $140 in January 2015. This must have been when Jim thought Jake was running for re-election to the City Council.

fools fools fools said...

If the fools elect Ireton to city council you all can put the nails in the coffin of the Bury...
And i Dont want to hear anyone ever complain about the bury again.
