I disagree with this sort of thing. The government should only provide recreation that is more inclusive. Handicapped persons, the elderly and small children are excluded from using this. Actually when you get right down to it, probably 99.9% of the city's residents won't be able to use this.

agreed with 903.

if the project was THAT in demand, then it shouldve had no problem being opened privately.

Just dig the dirt out of the skate part by the civic center if it's wanted that bad. What a big waste of money!

Great plan! finally something for our youth. The elderly, handicapped and small children have parks, zoo, nature trails the government has already supplied plenty of activities for such age group but this will be the first for 10-18 with the exception of a few 3-9 years olds who can skate.I do believe a park of this sized should be manned while open

10:03. By your logic (which is absurd and completely lacking in any logical thinking pattern besides being blatantly discriminatory against a protected class (age)) those that like to horseback should be provided with trails paid for and maintained by the city, those who like to sky dive should be provided a public jump park to jump into, those whose hobby is pole dancing should have a pole park. I could go on all day.......

10:03-You can't be serious? This is NOT the first thing for the 10-18 group. They can use the park, the zoo, nature trails as much as anyone else can.
A 1 yr old, senior citizens or someone who is physically or developmentally disabled isn't able to actively engage in the recreation provided by the skate park.

Why don't you put your money where your mouth is and pay for it then? You are the fool. You talk a good game but instead of being responsible and pay for this yourself you want others to pay for children's fun like you are a poverty case of something. People have no pride anymore. Walking around like beggars wanting the government to do and provide everything for them.

I can't believe you people are complaining about giving kids something else to do. You would probably also complain if kids were skating through a parking lot you were in.

It will cost twice as much, due to "tagging", trash, and cleaning up of such things. Waste of money, but they're good at that. (Council and mayor, I mean)

Yes, I would complain if kids were skating though a parking lot because it is against the law! I would complain about any criminal I see. That's how a civilized society conducts itself. It reports crime.

kids don't have anything to do...How about "get a summer job".

I think this is a great idea! It will help fight obesity, help keep kids out of trouble and it will help bring a community together and keep kids safer so they don't have to skate on the streets!

Has there been any decision on which street gang will have controlling interests in new skate park?
You certainly don't want to send your child there in the wrong colors.

LOL everyone thinks something like this is a "great idea" when they aren't paying for it.
My parents always said if you are going to buy your child something like a skateboard or a mini bike then the parents also need to buy them a place to use it. A responsible parent wouldn't send their child to a place like this unsupervised either. A responsible parent wants to know not only the other children their children are with but the parents of these children as well.
And 6:06 you can not say it will keep kids out of trouble. That's silly and lacking in common sense. Everyone knows (or they should if they are responsible parents) that kids when they get together are subject to all kinds of peer pressure good and bad but mostly bad.

Buy yourself a clue ass clown lets send the teens to your house to hangout you old Fool.

A section of the old mall parking lot would make an ideal skate park. What is up with that property anyway? Is'nt it close enough to residences to be an attractive site? If it was on the side bordering St Albans Church Rd skateboarders could be a nuisance and it wouldn't bother anyone.

Why do they have to skate on the streets 6:06? Why can't they skate on their own private property? No one is making them skate on the streets.
It's nonsense to say it will keep them out of trouble. What are they going to not allow juvenile offenders in the park or any other bad influences out like kids who smoke or drink?
You people really need to start thinking before saying such dumb things.

This is great! Everyone in the city can use this facility! I know that I’m excited and so is my daughter. This will give us a safe place to skate verses the streets and parking lots that we so often are asked to leave. The city could benefit from it immensely. Skate tournaments can be held annual that could have the potential to bring money back into the city. Plus, our local skate shop will see an increase in sales. Most importantly it gives our youth a place to be free and exercise!!

after it is built it wont be maintained just like the dog park. it had broken equipment within 90 days and to my knowledge wasn't fixed. just taped off to prevent its use. the grass had grown around the fence and looked horrible.

10:16-At least there won't be great big turds laying around for people to step on,so it won't be "just" like the dog park.
