I was in shock Friday when I saw on several local news sites the story on the checkpoints in Accomack County. I had heard of this earlier as well, but chose not to report it. Why you might ask? I didn't think it was very smart to let whoever is doing this know they were going to be out in force stopping vehicles looking for them, it was like a red flag saying don't go out and burn. Here we are Monday morning and guess what since the reports came out about the checkpoints, there were zero fires over the weekend.

I thought the same thing when I read or heard about the check points JT. I really don't think you should blame the news outlets for reporting. Why did Law Enforcement even release that information unless they wanted it out in the public. There may be a method to their madness.
Yes there was a fire it was around 1:20 Am sat what are you talking about?
So many people recently have accused them of not taking this investigation seriously.Maybe this was to convince the public otherwise."Casual drinkers" quite often become full blown alcoholics."Recreational" pot smokers more times than not graduate to harder drugs and become full blown addicts. In my personal opinion the VSP is anticipating the same behavioral pattern with this arsonist. The likelihood of this person graduating to occupied structures is increasing by the day.
I think you all are missing the point of the checkpoints. The goal isn't to catch the arsonist in the act but is an attempt to get leads I think.
I believe what they are looking for are people who regularly travel the back roads who may have inadvertently seen something of significance but do not realized it. This isn't anything new and happens all the time.
Like for instance maybe out of all the cars stopped and questioned 3 different ones remembered seeing a certain vehicle parked along side a road, on different evenings in the vicinty of where a fire occured. Or maybe different people saw someone walking where it is unusual to see that and the different people all have the same description of the evening stroller on a rural road.
As far as it being reported to me that seems the only responsible thing for LE to do as to not alarm the general public.
Maybe check points are a good thing if it stops some of the fires. But i kind of have a feeling this person knows what and where. If any thing it gives Andy, Barney and the boys on the night shift something to do.
They might keep an eye open for drunk drivers, But might be asking too much.
There is a mental condition where people don't know they are doing things. That could apply to this person. He could be watching the news and shaking his head with the rest of us,wondering who could do such a thing.Chances are overwhelming that such a person lives in Accomac county. For instance, this condition enables them to get up in the middle of the night,go to a local store, actually buy items and pay for them. The next day they have no recollection of it.It most likely does not apply in this case, but it could.
Well I guess all local medias got a gigantic slap-down
Sorry JT they wanted us to get the word out
2:07 PM...lol. I tried that excuse when my girlfriend got pregnent. And Yes It did not work then either.
