It becomes increasingly obvious that the death penalty in Maryland is a joke. It isn't much of a deterrent when people know it will never be carried out. It isn't the fault of our Prosecutors for not seeking it, it's the fact it costs so much more money to try those cases that will never result in their death because of the way things are in Maryland. I am a firm believer in the Death penalty but not when it's never going to be used for the purpose it was created for.

Maybe it would be used if we got rid of the flaming liberals that run this state (everybody from govornor to dog catcher).
I agree 100% with your take on this JT.
I agree completely. Why have it if its never used.
Of all the stupid, crazy, idiotic laws that we do have, why not get rid of some of them instead of worrying about getting rid of the death penalty. The fact that it is O'Malley pushing to get rid of it tells me that we should in fact keep it.
To many bleeding hearts is why its never used.
What is there to stop an inmate doing life from killing a guard? Fear of the death penalty. That alone is reason enough to keep it.
Keep it, but there should only be one appeal and there should be a good reason for the appeal.
I'm all for public hangings.
We have a death penaltys to send the bad people to hell where they belongs.
How come the death penalty is carried out within 5 yrs or so Delaware & Virginia.
Thomas Leggs should already be cold in the ground,as should many others.I am tired of their rights what about the victims rights? If I am not mistaken,John Frederick Thanos was the last inmate executed in our state.
Dog catcher is far from a liberal. He is on the side of the death penalty. Its the bleeding heart liberals that are against the death penalty. I garauntee that the guy in new York that set the fires called in the alarm and then shot the fire fighters had he been executed the first time he killed someone, would have never harmed another person.
6:02 There's been a few more since Thanos in '94. Hunt in '97, Gilliam in '98, Oken in '04, and Baker in '05. Then in '06 Court of Appeals (highest court in MD) ruled executions to be suspended because of an error in the procedure manual not being properly adopted.
Glendening halted executions in
'02. Ehrlich ended the moratorium in 04'
One of the problems I have with the death penalty is the jury. Not only does it take much more time to pick what is referred to as a death qualified jury, but quite alot of times, the jury will not want the burden of what in their minds is causing another's death, esp after sitting days and looking at the defendant and family and will compromise with a lessor guilty verdict or acquit all together if lessor not an option.
Jurors have also had to deal with emotional problems after death penalty cases. Contrary to popular belief it is not an easy task when you are the one who literally holds another human beings life in your hands no matter the deeds of the person.
