Sad Day In Bloxom
My Thoughts go out to the Bloxom Vol Fire Company who lost a member today in a tragic accident off Nelsonia road. Please keep the family of David Chew in your thoughts and prayers.
Yesterday Was Deadline Day For Somerset County Teachers
Yesterday was the deadline for any teachers to quit, after today if they decide to leave they can be sued for breach of contract.
Mark Your Calender For This Friday
Friday night will be the third birthday of 3rd Friday and it is going to be a fun time and I am looking forward to it. They will also be showing Captain America one of my favorite movies by the way at the river walk as well. Mark your calenders for Friday and have some fun.
Is The Overcrowded Prison System To Blame?
Is part of the reason more offenders are getting little jail time because the prison systems are crowded with minor offense cases like marijuana possession and other drugs. I mean which is most important to keep off the streets? someone smoking weed or people like Matthew Burton who victimize children? This is a question that the public and our law enforcement agencies will one day have to decide as the public continues to get outraged at the issue of prison overcrowding an the time different offenders are receiving.
Randy Laird Man Of His Word
It's nice to talk about good things and people who get things done. Randy Laird one of the Somerset County Commissioners is one of them. He told the Beach Committee he would get them some fresh sand and sure enough as promised it was delivered last week.
LED Signs Should Be Standard
There has been a debate occurring recently on the use of LED signs at Fire Departments and other locations and if Town ordinances need to be modified to allow. In my opinion they should be allowed anywhere that wants to put them within reason, especially if they are providing the community with information of local events. Clear Channel's big LED sign on 13 south has been a great addition to the community with the ability they have to feature missing people immediately as soon as contacted by law enforcement. The ability to update these signs in real time is vital to the communities these departments serve. These signs are easier to read and extremely visible even in bad weather which is when they could save someones life.
The Fire Departments that are asking for these need to be able to both raise funds to serve the community and broadcast emergency news items like shelters to the people in the area and for that reason alone I support their use.
