Lot 30 First Up On Discussion List
Lot 30 is definitely a good place to start with the discussions on surplussing lots for commercial use. This space behind the drawbridge tower is a very underutilized lot that definitely due to it's high visibility could be used to entice people into the plaza area.
Please Be Careful In Ocean City
The sad news out of Ocean City yesterday of the 15 year old girl struck by a vehicle while crossing the road and dying only emphasizes the importance of being safe in the resort area this summer. Drivers need to be extra cautious when approaching intersections and pedestrians need to be aware of what is going on around them when crossing the highways. Please keep it safe this year in Ocean City.
Pay Equity Bill For Women Rejected?
I am not going to mince words here and can be labeled whatever you would like but how in the hell could the Republicans be against the Pay Equity Bill which would make Woman receive as they Deserve the same pay as men for the same job. Currently Woman make 77 cents on the Dollar of what Men make which is ridiculous there should be no discrepancy in paychecks for anyone in this day and age.
In my Opinion this just goes back to the let us protect the Business Owners at the expense of the employees by using the excuse it would open Business Owners up to lawsuits. Allow me to respond to that...GOOD because if any employer is paying a Woman less than a Man they should be sued for every penny they are keeping out of Womens pockets. How anyone could object to paying Women the same as Men really baffles me. I guess the Republican representatives that voted against the bill would prefer that Woman stay quiet at home barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. What a freaking joke in 2012 to have this crap be going on .
Impressive Turnout At County Budget Hearing
If you really want to see what Democracy is all about then you should have been watching the County Budget hearing at the Civic Center. Both sides of the issues were well represented and made good points in favor of their respective sides. The ones that really hit home were the teachers who were asking the Council to fund the Board of Education at the highest levels, some breaking down in tears over their feelings on the matter.
It really is a no win situation for our Council and County Executive as it just seems impossible to do all the things we should be able to do in the County from funding Schools, Paving Roads, Keeping our Sheriff's Department and State's Attorney Office staffed and funded, Keeping our Parks beautiful and so many other things that need high funding.
I am completely supportive of the building of the new Bennett Middle School but beyond that I don't see what more can be done. I think what should be done is put it to referendum on removing the revenue cap and see if the taxpayers would be willing to do so in order to fund all the needs we have. If the majority vote in favor than maybe we can get more done with the fund needed. I think however having a High School dropout as Council President doesn't help matters because obviously furthering education is not one of his priorities.
Great job to all citizens who voiced their opinions one way or the other that's what this Country is all about.
