Fully Support Salisbury Police Officers

I want to make a post in support of our brave local SPD officers involved in the incident on Early Sunday morning. I said as I have before when the Princess Anne shooting occurred that it is completely on the suspects the reaction they receive when they try to ram an Officer with their car. The Police have every right to use deadly force when a suspect has shown a willingness to strike cruisers in an attempt to flee.

Law Enforcement Officers are out to protect us the citizens and this is precisely what they are doing when they take these actions. I applaud the SPD for their dealing with this menace on the roads and for keeping the citizens safe, thank you

Pitbull Discussion Brings Out Strong Emotions

Wow the post I had up last week regarding the pitbulls and are they inherently dangerous after the Md Court of Appeals said they were, brought forth many strong comments both against and for. It seems there are many local Pitbull owners who love them and trust them every bit as much as a Collie and then you have the people that just think they are evil fight dogs .I still say any dog can be mean

Crazy Day In The Bury

Well if today is any indication of the summer ahead it will be quite the active police season. The barricade situation and the briefly missing woman had police busy on this pretty Monday. Add this with the guy trying to hit the cops Sunday AM and it seems like the wild west.

Could One Of Wicomico County's Most Wanted Have Information On Jeffrey Gunderson Cold Case

Could one of Wicomico County's Most Wanted suspects have information that could help solve the Jeffrey Gunderson cold case? Eugene Baugh pictured at top, has a family member that lives next door to where Mr Gunderson lived, and at one time was reported to do some lawn work for Jeffrey. Could he have seen something or have information that could help this case? well I guess with him on the run  we will unfortunately not be able to ask those questions anytime soon.

Daily Times Article On Red White and Boom Says It All

Salisbury will have fireworks again this Fourth of July --the largest show on Delmarva outside of the beach, as a matter of fact, not to be outdone by any privately hosted display. And the city's Fourth of July celebration will encompass more than just coming out to say "ooh" and "ahh," then leave and go home. It's going to be a party, an updated version of the old-fashioned patriotic community get-together of yore.
Mike Dunn, event organizer and former City Council president, is putting together a celebration that's fitting of the region's largest community, in response to disappointment expressed by residents who have not seen a fireworks display in Salisbury for nearly a decade. The site of the former Shoreland Freezer on Bateman Street will be ground zero for launching the fireworks.
Not that there haven't been obstacles to overcome. Like parking. But former Salisbury Fire Department Deputy Chief of Volunteers Bill Gordy stepped up to the plate and has enlisted the support of the city, its fire and police departments, the county Board of Education and a number of area businesses to solve that dilemma. Salisbury University has agreed to open its campus to the community, and the display should be visible for a one-mile radius, which means families can park in any SU lot, bring lawn chairs and blankets to the campus grounds and enjoy the show.
Money has also been a problem. Dunn, aiming to raise $40,000 this year to cover expenses for this year and next, has already collected more than $20,000. Donations are being handled through a 501(c)(3) called Salisbury Traditions that will support both the Fourth of July event and the Winter Wonderland of Lights display in City Park.
Clearly this community is hungry to have its own celebration again.
The Daily Times is proud to join the city and university as a sponsor of Salisbury's rejuvenated Fourth of July event.
On the Fourth -- or July 5 if it rains on the holiday itself -- "American Avenue" will open on nearby Wayne Street at 6:30 p.m., featuring food vendors and children's activities.
As darkness falls, around 9 p.m., Fireworks Extravaganza, the company hired to handle the fireworks, will begin launching fireworks that will reach up to 600 feet in height. This is the same company that has handled shows for nearby displays in recent years, including the town of Snow Hill and Shorebirds Stadium.
To keep abreast of developments in anticipation of the big day, visitwww.facebook.com/redwhiteandboom. To make a contribution, contact Dunn at dunnmike5@gmail.com or by calling 410-726-5194. Donations of all sizes are welcome, from $10 to $10,000.
And don't forget to make plans to come out on the Fourth, hang out with friends and neighbors, and enjoy the show. No longer will Salisbury-area residents need to travel to the beach or seek an invitation to attend a private display if they wish to celebrate our nation's birthday in the traditional way.

Salisbury Bike Lanes Closer To A Reality

I think it is fantastic what this group bike-sby have done in getting over 620 signatures of support in getting permanent bike paths around Salisbury. With gas prices being so high and many wanting to be eco friendly, the good ol trusty bicycle could be making a comeback in Salisbury

How Will Princess Anne Ever Survive Without Frank White?

It hurt so bad to see the terrible news that Frank White had decided to drop out of the race for re-election in Princess Anne because he was going to have a problem with his residency requirements. There seems to be lot of that going on lately with people forgetting where they live and what they can and can't run for.

How will Princess Ann ever make out without Frank fighting the good ol boy network (snicker) that he has been fighting against his whole life. I think what Frank must have done is created a Nintendo Mii character called good ol boy network in Wii sports on the Wii he bought with the Princess Ann credit card and that's what he has been fighting against as it would make much more sense.

Princess Anne you can finally be out from under the shadow that was Frank White and start moving forward, Frank Good Riddance

WICOMICO COUNTY TO CELEBRATE
NATIONAL CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS’ WEEK MAY 6-12th

May 2, 2012 -- The County Executive and County Council formally recognized the first full week of May as National Correctional Officers’ Week in Wicomico County during last night’s Council meeting. Wicomico County Department of Corrections Director, George Kaloroumakis and a delegation of off-duty officers and employees were present to receive the proclamation.

The Wicomico County Department of Corrections is a key component of public safety. “Our Wicomico County Correctional Officers, on a daily basis, have to deal with dangerous and unspeakably horrible behavior from some of the people under their watch,” County Executive Pollitt said, “These brave men and women deserve our utmost respect and gratitude for their role in keeping our community safe.”

After receiving the proclamation, Corrections Director George Kaloroumakis expressed his heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the outstanding work the officers and employees perform 24 hours a day, seven days a week with some of the most difficult and challenging personalities in the community. “The good work we do goes largely unnoticed by the citizens we serve,” said Kaloroumakis, “So, it is important to set aside a special time each year to recognize and thank our correctional employees who are committed and dedicated to serving the community in this profession.”

On May 5, 1984, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed the first ever National Correctional Officers Week. Referring to correctional officers in his proclamation, President Reagan stated, "They are called upon to fill, simultaneously, custodial, supervisory and counseling roles. The professionalism, dedication and courage exhibited by these officers throughout the performance of these demanding and often conflicting roles deserve our utmost respect."

President Reagan went on to call upon officials of State and local governments and the people of the United States to observe this week with appropriate ceremonies and activities. The first full week in May has since been recognized as National Correctional Officers' Week to honor the work of correctional officers and correctional personnel nationwide.

Therefore, it is appropriate that correctional officers and correctional employees be recognized and honored by the citizens and government officials of Wicomico County during the first full week of May.
