Flashback To September 2010 and Still Holds True Today Wicomico County Sheriff's Department Deserves Collective Bargaining Agreement UPDATE!

The Daily Times has an article out this morning by Greg Latshaw which can be read here which brings up the collective bargaining agreement and the WCSO. I know that times are tough economically but the men and women that put their lives on the line for us each and every day deserve everything they can possible get and that means Collective Bargaining is a must. I don't understand why the Sheriff's Department doesn't already have LEOPS.

The Law Enforcement Officers Pension System (LEOPS) is a defined benefit plan sponsored by the State of Maryland; Members contribute 4% of their annual earnable compensation and are eligible to retire at age 50 or at any age upon accumulating 25 years of creditable service; The plan pays a benefit of 2% of average final compensation for each year of service up to a maximum benefit of 60% and includes up to a 3% annual COLA, ordinary and accidental disability allowances and death benefits. Members may participate in a Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) between their 25th and 30th years of employment while they continue working and their retirement allowance is placed in an account earning 6% interest; Most creditable service with other Maryland government employers may be transferred to LEOPS

The Salisbury City Police already have LEOPS and it is time that the County take care of the Deputies with this as well.

Has Marjorie Miles Lost The Trust Of Somerset County Residents

Residents in Somerset County are quite upset with Marjorie Miles and her seeming lack of concern for public input on the new Crisfield High restructuring plan. I have heard from many residents that just feel like she just made some quick decisions after having the School consolidation plan shot down and hasn't put enough thought into what would really work best for the children and parents.

Parents and residents who are getting involved feel like they are being ignored because they are speaking up with their own thoughts on the process, and any time residents take an interest in their local School they should be encouraged to participate, not feel like trouble makers.
