Wow has this case ever been the talk of the Country lately, and I have been saddened by the divide this has caused in our Country. It is a terrible tragedy when someone so young loses their life, but young people like Trayvon die everyday in this Country and not get the attention this case is getting because it has turned to race.
I am not trying to offend either side by my opinion on the matter, but since this is my outlet for thoughts I am going to share them.
My big problem with the entire case is why people are jumping to conclusions about it when we haven't seen or heard all the evidence in regards to it. I thought it was a big mistake for President Obama to make a remark saying Trayvon could have been his son before all the facts were out in the case.
For one thing George Zimmerman is not white, he has a white mother but honestly if you saw him on the streets looking at his picture above you would call him Hispanic. Zimmerman was a member of the Neighborhood Watch so he has a reason for being on patrol the night that Martin was killed, and Martin had a right to be there in the gated community as he was visiting his father and step mother.
The reason the neighborhood had a watch was because of frequent theft by sadly people that matched Trayvon Martin's description and yes that would be young black males. I think that is where the story goes into this crazy race war people are making it. The facts are and it's not something I am proud of because society in general is to blame for a lack of jobs and social environments that the majority of those crimes are committed by that group, it would be the same for if there were skateboard damage being done to the sidewalks in your neighborhood then you would look to young white kids as possible perpetrators. It's not different than what happened after 9/11 when Muslim people were looked at more carefully.
Is it wrong? on a base level the answer is yes, but at the same time people use experience and what occurs around them as a basis for their own thoughts on things like this. I know the people who are very anti Zimmerman aren't going to like it but this entire situation could have been resolved if Trayvon had just said he was coming back from the store and that his Dad lived there. I do not believe for one second that George Zimmerman would have then shot and killed him. They could have walked to his fathers house so that Zimmerman knew he was ok and then none of this situation would have occurred.
If the information that has been coming out in the past few days is true and verified that Zimmerman had a broken bloody nose and the back of his head was wet and had grass on it then the evidence points to Zimmerman being confronted and assaulted by Martin who then in turn pulled his gun out and shot him out of self defense. The entire situation is just tragic and sad but is being made worse by the demands and threats being made to Police and Zimmerman. This Country is not run by Mob Rule and if the Police who investigate these cases believe this to be self defense it really is reprehensible to me that people would be basically threatening the Police to do something or create a charge in the case because they are upset.
I am saddened by the case, especially a young man losing his life, but this has taken on some crazy life of it's own that is being fueled by race and not facts. People are right there certainly wasn't anything wrong with Trayvon wearing a hoodie, the problem lies with not just identifying yourself.
Please remember friends or visitors this is my opinion on the matter and you are entitled to yours.
