Kudos To Jim Ireton For Officer Retention Plan

I want to give credit to Jim Ireton's budget idea to allow Salisbury Police Officers to increase their pay at the 4 year mark of service to stay competitive with other local agencies. I remember when I was working the crime task force numbers that it was a big reason we were struggling to have Officers stay and be a part of our City as it seemed Salisbury was just a stepping stone to the Sheriff's Department. Hopefully this will allow us to not only keep Officers around but maybe encourage them to actually come to the Department.

It's an attempt, but woefully inadequate. Police officer first class should be a rank and a step police officers can achieve after three years of service, no college credits required, after taking a pass/fail test. You pass the test, you get a stripe and are moved up to the PFC pay grade.

Vote Joe Albero for Mayor!

Shit, if Albero ran for mayor he might have a few of his followers that still make their mark with an X vote for him, but that would be about it. Can't wait for the day that Albero takes his fat, whiney ass back into Delmar and never looks back. He's a freaking cancer.

Hold your kudos, there is alot you don't know. While they lowered the number of years it takes to get this pay increase, the last I heard it only applies to NEW HIRES. This does not help the officers that have stuck around through thick and thin and have seen the starting pay increased many times while theirs did not. Because of the compression issue, a new hire could move up through the ranks in 5 years and make more than someone in the same rank who has been there ten years. It's the same thing the cable company does, offers you the premium channels at a reduced cost to get you there and once they have you for several years they offer you nothing for being a loyal customer.
