The Rise and Fall Of Davis Ruark
In a often told tale of someone you would think has everything they could ever want or need, they somehow find a way to take a leap off a steep cliff and plummet back to the rest of us. Davis Ruark is a prime example of this. 20+ years as the Wicomico County State's Attorney, recognized as a good trial lawyer but developed personal demons that took that all away.
Maybe the fact that he ran unopposed gave him the idea that the County loved him somehow and that he didn't have to worry about pleasing anyone, but the message the voters finally sent to him when someone ran against him should have told him a different story. People voted for Seth Mitchell just to be rid of Davis Ruark and the majority of those then voted for Matt Maciarello. How could someone fall out of favor you ask? well Davis Ruark has made that manual for future pubic figures.
Davis perpetuated the good ol boys attitude that in the old days was the status quo. He felt special privilege was his for being the State's Attorney. How long he felt that way we will never know but it came to light when he was arrested in 2008 for DUI and possession of a handgun. Davis to this day feels like he was the victim of a deliberate plot against him on the handgun charge even though it is clearly against the law. He felt that part should have been a pass. Davis also has had to deal with questions regarding another blogger with a lengthy criminal background and his relationship for years, issues at the zoo that should have been prosecuted that were stetted out.
After a leave of absence when he should have resigned, things were quiet for a short period until it became time for the election cycle. When the information came out that Sam Vincent was planning to run against him, Davis knew he was done. Sam was well respected by his peers and would have crushed Davis and he knew it. Davis then decides the best route is to request anyone planning to run against him resign, a very petty low class move. Tragically Sam was killed in an accident that same week that the story regarding Davis and his inner office memo made the news. I actually had hoped that the incident would maybe help turn Davis Ruark's life around because I know it hurt him, sadly it seemed to have the opposite affect it started to spiral even more out of control.
When the election date came and went Davis Ruark was sent a clear and resounding message from the Wicomico County voters that they were done with him and the soap opera he had created at the State's Attorney's Office. Of course sadly we still had the Sarah Foxwell case that the County had to deal with and since Davis was in charge when it happened the family asked newly elected State's Attorney Matt Maciarello to keep Davis on to prosecute the case. Many in the community were outraged at this because they had sent him a clear message to be gone, but I respected the family and their wishes for him to stay on, and for Matt for taking the beating for doing so.
Evidently according to court documents Davis was having marital issues during this period as well culminating with his wife filing for Divorce in August. According to the papers filed in court his wife alleges voluntary and mutual separation beginning in the spring, and also alleges adultery (but offers no specifics)she is seeking, among other things, custody of the one remaining minor child (2 others are adults), child support and spousal support (i.e. alimony). Davis is fighting the alimony. He was also fired from his new job at a local law firm. This brings us to the incidents of the past month or so including his arrest yesterday.
The Lady in question filed a peace order against him to keep him from texting her and her mom repeatedly even after she had asked him to stop. Davis evidently from his arrest yesterday would not leave her alone and contacted her via email and text. Davis of course now again like the gun charge is running around making it like it was a vindictive personal thing that was done to him. Davis no contact means just that, contacting her in any way email or text violates what was ordered there is no gray area.
It comes down to a lack of accepting responsibility for his actions which is what he has been doing for years, always blaming others for his own mistakes. I took note that since he left the State's Attorney's Office and certain others were let go after a new boss came in, the leaks from that Office ceased ...Coincidence? who knows but it is true. I have to say he brings alot of this upon himself because when you lock people up for doing the very things you think you should get away with and blame others for, it doesn't make people think kindly of you.
Davis should accept the peace order and consider moving from the area to really have a chance at fixing his life. When the history of Davis Ruark is written it won't be his great trial skills that will be remembered now it will be his criminal related issues people will remember him by, and honestly while it is ashame he did it to himself.
