Awesome Comment From Daily Times Regarding Urban Salisbury
"Third Friday conception and ongoing effort all part of Urban Salisbury, Park N' Flea one of the original projects, Poplar Hill Grant (Check dispursed to group at last nights meeting over $52,000 for repair work), Facade Grant program for downtown businesses, City Market Study, Opening of Main Street to traffic, Downtown brochures and promotional materials, Economic study, Hundreds of hours of work by architects on the board pro bono for streetscape redesign to name a few...
Have any of you been to a tree lighting? Thank Urban Salisbury
Does anyone notice the sculptures downtown? Yes, that's Urban Salisbury again, working with SU students on design and local business to create orginal art for the city.
How about Urban Bourbon Events, Movie Night Under the Stars, Block Parties, the Memorial Day Band Concerts, Fire Fest, etc.- Thank Urban Salisbury
But the main point is Urban Salisbury was primarily a group of VOLUNTEERS! Citizens who cared enough about the city to give their time FREE! How do you think an event happens? People spend hours of their DONATED time brainstorming, planning, sometimes contributing their own money to get these events off the ground. Third Friday is the most recent event that would never of happened without the efforts of this group, personally and financially.
The miniscule budget that the city was asked for to keep the organization running was nothing to what the city gained. Now the Main street designation is in jeopardy for you need an Executive Director position - that's the person who writes the grants and keeps the volunteers focused and organized. Well worth the expenditure.
For those of you who complain about the downtown, have you volunteered your time lately to change it?"

This is why the Council cannot dilly with getting this to someone who can save it, unless the three morons want to put money aside to repair this place we will lose this beautiful building.
Extreme Makeover Mardela Springs Edition
If you are a Wicomico County resident you should be proud of our County the way people have come together to help a truly deserving family in the Johnson-Goslees. Wyzir is even staying behind to help with the build. What a great thing for the County and the community. I know I am looking forward to seeing this air
Appalling Situation In Fruitland
The Situation with the Fruitland Apartment Complex on Poplar Street is beyond disgusting. Dewar properties seems to have just abandoned the residents. Several months back they had a bed bug infestation at these same apartments and then we see in the news yesterday the stair wells collapsed making it unlivable. The people trying to live their lives in these apartments are being treated less than human when the Property owners cannot be bothered to actually keep their tenants safe and their buildings maintained.
go look at Matt Gunby's photos on the Daily Times here of the situation
Urban Salisbury Says Goodbye
Well another notch in the belt of Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen as they have managed to rid the City of another of Barrie Tilghman's ideas. Never let those 2 fool you, it's not about Salisbury it's about paybacks and vendettas. Starting back in the late 90's when Debbie was in her video tape days she has made it a point to stick it to anything Barrie Tilghman related because Barrie is a better human being than Debbie. Urban Salisbury was just another slain enemy to the pair and dumb ol Tim can't think for himself.
Urban Salisbury has worked wonders up until the last few years when having to deal with a bad economy and increased BS from Debbie and Terry halted their momentum. Bruce Patterson and Alan Hope are fantastic people who have tried their best with what they have had to work with and it really is a sad day that this fantastic organization is coming to a close.
There is no progress to be had with the no crowd and you will notice they never come up with ideas but to say something isn't working. Urban Salisbury cannot be blamed for a poor economic climate that has forced many to close their doors Downtown. The issue will always be that Downtown has become a Mecca of the Legal world of Wicomico County with the District and Circuit Court's and all the defense attorney's owning 3/4 of the buildings downtown. The other problem is there simply isn't any drawing point for anyone to go Downtown except if they have been charged with a crime (or want the best Cupcakes and food of course at Deli 111 and Cake Art :) .
You need a bigger name company to take a chance on Downtown like an Apple Store or Macaroni Grill to get the ball really rolling toward economic development in that area. I feel for any group that wants to try to step up and actually help Salisbury with the idiots 3 on the Council
