Will Michaels Survive Hobby Lobby?

One of the biggest discussions happening locally is the question of whether Michaels will be able to stay around locally with the opening of the huge Hobby Lobby across the highway. Hobby Lobby is much bigger has ample parking and is in a better location in my opinion. It would be nice if they both made enough business to survive I just don't think it the economy that is realistic.

Thought Provoking Comment On Gay Marriage

"if we disagree with the left, we are racist, bigoted, and full of hate. heaven forbid we disagree with you. the words "homophobe" and "homophobic" were created to give sane people a very negative image. there are several reasons to "hate" heterophobes.
1. they cannot reproduce. if they do, they are cheating on the marriage and their way of life.
2. it serves no purpose other than title. if i remember correctly, they dont like "labels".
3. socially, it is still considered unacceptable by the majority. how it passed into the political realm is unreal.
4. religiously, its an abomination. also, marriage is deemed "holy matrimony" and is in itself a religious institution. therefore the government should NOT be making laws regarding this. in fact, they should not be in the marriage license business to begin with.
5. based on the method of acceptance, if enough child molesters got together and screamed "its their right" we would have to accept their "way of life" too. same with murderers, rapists, bank robbers, unions, prostitutes, etc.."

The "28th Annual National Night Out" (NNO), a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 2, 2011. Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,00 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. In all, over 37 million people participated in National Night Out 2010.

National Night Out is designed to:
Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness,
Generate support for, and participate in, local anticrime programs,
Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships,
Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

Come join us for a night of fun!

This Afternoon I Will Begin My Discussion On Issues At The SFD

In what is sure to be controversial, I will begin opening the door to the public of things going on at our Salisbury Fire Department.

Has John Phoebus Already Ruined His Political Career?

Is it safe to say that if John Phoebus couldn't win an election before, that with his recent track record of defending sex offenders he is totally toast now? I mean his opponents would have a field day of bringing this stuff up. John Phoebus has gotten to be the go to guy for alleged sex offenders in Somerset. I only hope John will turn his life around and consider helping the right kind of people in the future and rid himself of this stigma he has now created for himself.

Tenants' Rights Lease Addendum Time

Today the City begins the discussions on the Tenants' Rights Lease Addendum and while many may consider it a good thing, is it really worth the time and effort?

I certainly agree with the concept of not letting landlords boot people out for complaining but sadly I don't think that is the real aim of the legislation. I think it is another way to put something into law that will allow the City to now fight an inside battle with SAPOA by having tenants act as spies for them to complain about everything they can in the hopes of driving them away.

Neighborhood Services and Code Compliance is already a powerful little band, but with this they will have uniforms and salute Tom Stevenson when he walks in the room. If the Camden three think they will stop people from over occupying a rental with this they are sadly mistaken. It happens in every apartment complex around Salisbury from the good to the bad, people have people move in with them and as long as the tenant pays the rent nobody cares.

What this does is allow the City to have more abilities to spy on people to see what is going on inside their living areas. Will we have NSCC hiding in bushes with camo and cameras soon? If the idea was coming from someone other than people who have a very public hatred of renters it would be a good thing, but with this crowd just watch and see.

RJ Purnell Case Update

Being down at Tawes last week I had several people ask about the RJ Purnell case and what the latest was. They were also very interested in why the judge granted a gag order in this case. The rumors are that John Phoebus is trying hard to discredit the girls involved in the case and to get his client back to work in Crisfield High.

On the other side I have heard from several people that the case may be bigger than expected. The case is scheduled for August 18th
