On way home

Just leaving court will moderate comments momentarily

Was Sarah Lake Part Of The Presenters Last Night?

This is all the people on PAC14 could see last night during presentations. Sarah Lake in the background with a big fruit drink cup and her laptop on display for everyone. I'm unsure and maybe giving her the benefit of the doubt here, perhaps she has never actually watched pac14 or a City Council meeting on tv since she is a newbie at this so.

Sarah now you have this photo to show you where not to put your stuff .

City Towing Issues Come To Light

Last night an interesting discussion on the Towing issues that we are having around town occurred at the City Council meeting and some highly disturbing info came out about it.Some local Towing Companies are taking people for a ride and I mean literally.

One gentlemen who had the displeasure of dealing with Adkins towing mentioned an incident he had with them that really was uncalled for and I'm glad this guy came to speak up about it. The guy admitted he was wrong in where he parked because he didn't see the sign posted, so he took the blame for that but what happened afterward was ridiculous. He was told they were hooking his car up by the restaurant he was at, ran outside to asked the guy to cut him some slack. The Adkins driver of course was having none of it and told the guy if he gave him 175 dollars he would let the car down but it had to be cash.

The guy didn't have that much cash on him, only his credit cards which they don't accept so the driver told him then it would be an additional 75 dollar storage fee. This guy and his wife were from out of town stopping in for a meal on their way home from a  trip to Chincoteague so an overnight stay was out of the question. He got a cab went to an ATM and then went to Adkins towing office which was now of course closed. He manages to get the owner on the phone who evidently very rude and said basically your screwed till morning.

He called the SPD who thankfully were able to assist the guy and get them to send someone to get the guy his car. He had  been able only been able to pull 200 which was the max from his bank ATM so the Adkins owner threatened to hunt him down if they didn't get them the other 50 dollars.

We had another gentlemen talk about his car breaking down at 4am and needing help to which Parsons towing this time, charged him 225 dollars for a 4 mile trip.
Gary Pusey of course spoke up against any cap on the amount they can charge people for towing and claimed if any new ordinance on this was passed 90% of the legit towing companies will leave town.

Look I understand the cost that is required to operate these trucks and go out at all hours of the night and maintain the vehicles, but we can't have the wild west in towing. There must be some set across the board rates to follow, so people aren't bilked with these outrageous fees. I did like the one guys idea that if you catch the driver before they tow the car you should be able to have an unhook at a reduced rate and they should accept credit cards.
