Will This Be The Week?

Will this be the week we finally get some answers on what happened? If we don't keep the story going people will forget and then answers will never come out in a timely fashion. Let us hope this is the week

Somers Cove Shooting

I want to correct myself and apologize for my post this morning. I had the report of this shooting on Saturday but since I don't blog on weekends I waited until today to post but scheduled it for this morning. At the time my sources told me he had been caught and the victim was taken to Shock Trauma both of which were wrong and I take full blame. They were taken to PRMC and the person wasn't caught, but they knew who he was. I had not amended my post since the first reports came to me and I do apologize. The suspect is 24 year old Daniel Smith Jr and if you know where he is please call the police.

Government Education Quote of the Day

There is never a shortage of ways to demonstrate that our government education system was built to promote mediocrity. This time we use the words of one Albert Schanker. Who is Albert Schanker? He was the head of the American Federation of Teachers unions for a long, long time. Shanker once said that as president of the AFT he would worry about the children when the children could vote in union elections. Back in 1989, Shanker had this to say about government education ..
It’s time to admit that public education operates like a planned economy, a bureaucratic system in which everybody’s role is spelled out in advance and there are few incentives for innovation and productivity. It’s no surprise that our school system doesn’t improve: it more resembles the communist economy than our own market economy.
Few incentives for productivity … resembles the communist economy … this sounds like the beacon of hope for your children, doesn’t it?

Some strange crap going on ..more to come

Azul Lounge and Venue

I read Sarah Lake's article here over the weekend, and at least for once in her life she didn't quote unnecessary people for an article. I'm glad to see this making its way into the news more, so more people can be aware of it and know the pitfalls of such an establishment. When I first heard about Azul coming Downtown I did an article back in February here which expressed some concerns local law enforcement and other Downtown were having regarding the establishment.

I have been pleasantly surprised however since then with the fact that many of the concerns have been listened to (especially the one about open dialogue with the Police) and while there are always bad apples in every bunch I really have heard nothing bad from any Downtown businesses regarding the club so while an incident here and there is to be expected I applaud the efforts.

Checkers To Close

All I can say is crap, I like Checkers.

Somers Cove Shooting UPDATE

Well just as things seemed to be quieting down from the outside, there was a shooting that sent a resident to the hosptial over the weekend. The person is expected to survive but this is a bad sign for an already troubled neighborhood.
