WBOC Has Lost All Respect UPDATE
WBOC seems to have really lost it when it come to local news coverage. Most of their news now is almost all Delaware, with alot of local stories simply overlooked or forgotten. Then we get to the most disgusting thing of all what they have done with the Whitney Bennett case.
I understand WBOC has a policy of not covering "missing" people until they have information that a crime has occured, but surprisingly WMDT who has been covering all the actual local news doesn't have that same policy. WMDT reported her missing and then at least once a month did a follow up regarding it.
The family had asked WBOC to help get the word out but was met with the our policy speech regarding missing people, but then we get to last night. WBOC has tried to interview the family who has held strong they will not since they couldn't be bothered to help with this case, so WBOC take it upon themselves to go out and get footage of the hole she was buried in. Yes you read that correct. WBOC thought it was a good idea to show footage on the news of the actual hole. They couldn't be bothered to spread the word about her case but the minute finality comes they are all over the hole she was in...real nice.
I don't know who is making these disgusting decisions but they need to be fired. WBOC has gone downhill so fast this year with their news coverage that they need to get themselves together. I cannot fathom any reason to do what they did, I drove to the property and took pictures from the road, I didn't feel it necessary to hurt the family like WBOC did last night for the lower shore to see. Shame on you WBOC
UPDATE:John Butterfield who operates the WBOC facebook page sends me a message that they didn't appreciate me putting on their wall that I was going to write about them. I promptly called John and told him my thoughts on the matter. It amuses me that they can muster the concern over a wall post that they know is going to be critical of them but not to find a missing woman.

Should the amount of time be shortened to file a Missing Persons Report?

One of the things that I think needs to be discussed is if we can expedite the amount of time someone over the age of 18 must be missing before you can file a report. Some places are 48 hours others are 72, I wonder how many cases would have been solved that are still cold if Police were able to get on the case quicker.
Will The New Bennett Middle Still Be On The Books?
With Rick Pollitt giving his preview of the upcoming budget, I wonder if the new Bennett Middle will be mentioned as still a possibility. If things are as bad as he is making them out to be I would hope they have given up on that for the time being. I agree a new Bennett is needed but money wise it just isn't a reality right now.
7pm tonight in the Flanders room at the Civic Center.
Gang Warfare On The West Side?
The recent shootings and stabbing on the west side of Salisbury are rumored to be all gang related issues with gangs targeting other members. There are many gangs evidently fighting over control of the City as Wicomico County State's Attorney Matt Maciarello reported in his letter supporting the OJJDP grant, including Bloods, Crips, Black Gorilla Family and MS13.
As with any gang activity the problem is the fear it gives people to even want to come out of their homes after dark for fear of getting caught up in one of these skirmishes that have been increasing in volume.
