Truth be told
It seems as most politicians are just plain old thieves. The money anyone and everyone in America earns, is theirs., not the politicians. For the government to try and redistribute it, is thievery! There is no other way to put it. For any politician to demonize private money is absurd. especially considering they have a salary because of private business.
Brad and Palmer Gillis Changed My Mind
I had sent my letter to the City Council denouncing this deal, but last night Brad and Palmer Gillis stole the show and changed my mind.
I have to say after hearing the entire story from both sides I do not blame Gillis at all because he followed the rules, I think the problem he ran into was a bunch of people LORA included saw the deal and were like damn I should have gotten a piece of that action. The problem is after hearing all the facts, the City is going to get far more than 100,000 dollars for it. Palmer Gillis explained how when he bought the old Woolworth building downtown the taxes were 3,200 a year but after all the excellent work and it becoming usable space again are now in the range of 32,000 a year.
The fact is I have to say they were right part of the deal was not just the money up front, but what they were going to do to preserve the building, and The Gillis group is known to be excellent stewards of such buldings.Palmer was also right in the fact that this building has been known to be available for bid and you could have went upstairs to the GOB made a copy of their plan and added 1,000 and you could have gotten the deal, but guess what nobody else had a plan.
It was so amusing to see Criminal Joe Albero get brought into the events because of his 250,000 offer 2 years ago. Albero couldn't keep any of his other trashy buildings up to code so why again would anyone sell him anything in such a beautiful area? Plus Joe doesn't have that kind of money since he can't even pay his taxes on time. He makes ZERO dollars from his website as according to him all the revenue goes to "charity" which he offers no proof of by the way except his word, and since he served a year probation for perjury that sure in the hell isn't worth much now is it Joe boy?
I do wish the City could have gotten more money for it, but you know what that's not Palmer and Brad's problem. The building was available for anyone to place a bid on and have a plan for it's use and nobody else stepped up. Do we penalize the Gillis family for this? the answer is no. I don't want to see this building continue to sit abandoned and regardless no decision was going to please everyone but I have no doubt they will be good stewards of that building and make it into something we can all be proud of.
Michelle's not so free lunch
While former president and new co president Bill Clinton (D) works on the tax bill and other projects, President Barack Obama (D) admits that his other co- president is behind his latest government takeover of parental responsibilities, The Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act.
"Had I not been able to get this bill passed, I would be sleeping on the couch," he joked, referring to his wife, the force behind this $4.5 billion act which provides more free school meals to the pool, and gives the government more power to decide what foods can offered in those meals, as well as in school vending machines and fundraisers during school hours.
After nominal president Obama spoke, Michelle took over:
"When our kids spend so much of their time each day in school, and when many children get up to half their daily calories from school meals, it's clear that we as a nation have a responsibility to meet as well," Mrs. Obama said. "We can't just leave it up to the parents. I think that parents have a right to expect that their efforts at home won't be undone each day in the school cafeteria or in the vending machine in the hallway. I think that our parents have a right to expect that their kids will be served fresh, healthy food that meets high nutritional standards."
This free lunch bill, is not quite the free lunch it appears to be; it is paid for by reductions in funding for food stamps where people can actually select what food to buy for their kids, say potatoes or potato chips, in their food desserts.
