Gillis Getting The Shaft?

I watched the pac14 public comments and have a new perspective and thought about Palmer and Brad Gillis and what they said..more tomorrow

Station 16

From the Daily Times:

Subsequent to months of dialogue the former Station 16 was considered surplus because there's no longer a need to host emergency services, the city had no use for the property, the city can not afford to operate/carry the building.

Definition: politicians can waste taxpayer money just because they want to.

We have a proven downtown redevelopment track record and are qualified to see this project through. We will restore and reuse this historical significant downtown building by creating a regional self-supporting hospitality destination located in the Heart of Delmarva, Salisbury.

I had no idea downtown was doing so well. I may have missed that point because our downtown area is dying because of government.

This city-owned property will be transferred to the tax rolls; property, sales and amusement taxes will be contributed to the city's coffers. Also, the project will have four or five apartments on the second floor. This project truly does implement the vision: live, work, play downtown and is a step toward downtown's vitality.

Wow, like there are not any apartments above buildings in the downtown are now. How original this idea is.

Valuation of public property is no easy task; could the building be worth $1 million or $2 million; maybe as a private residence or office; would the city accept that as the best use? Valuation of public property is unlike a private transaction; the city looks at not just the highest price but economic impact, tax revenue, highest and best use, strength of bidders and goes through a complex disposition agreement to uphold the agreed upon use.

Here it is, politicians know better. The fact is, this is a problem of politics and has nothing to do with economics. Not one person with any common sense would do this deal. This is why so many are angry with government. What politician knows better than a private business person? And just what wheels are getting greased here?

If you oppose this project for the concept, timing or price, I am sorry.
The disposition has been public knowledge for more than 24 months. Our proposal has been public knowledge for more than 12 months. Our offer price is based on knowledge of historical building renovations. You had every chance to submit an offer; you did not.

The arrogance spills forth. it is almost as if Bradley Gillis is a politician. So goes our corrupt city. Just where is our manchild of a mayor...........

Maybe our mayor would better serve us all if he became the bar manager at Flavors of Italy?

Salisbury Should Sell Station 16 To Joe Albero

I mean when you see the love and care that he has put into the other properties he owns shown below why in the hell wouldn't you sell him a building in the middle of downtown. I for one think the bird droppings like shown in the bottom picture up the property value because it becomes a nature sanctuary.

I

what a happy bird!!

Dr Nolte Friend Or Foe?

Dr Nolte has been a controversial figure in the area with many people claiming he is terrible at his job and others who claim he is a savior. I am asking for everyone's input on their experiences and I want to share one that I was told.

A person contacted me about their 2 year old dog who had been taken to Dr Nolte to be fixed and left in a cardboard box to be buried. The family had called at 4:30 to check on their boy and was told he had been given something to make him calm down but was fine other than being a little congested. When the other family member went to pick him 1/2 hour later he was told by Dr Nolte he had heart failure and 2 strokes but that they had never even attempted the procedure.

I don't know what happened but I know as someone that loves animals I would be devastated to take my pet in for a routine procedure and bring him home dead.

Bad Blood Between Sam Hale and Bryan Murphy

Well as we have seen many times in the history of politics, back stabbing and former friends turned enemies has now happened between Sam Hale who helped run Bryan Murphy unsuccessful bid for Governor and Bryan.

It seems that Bryan basically shoved a huge knife in Sam's back and tried to not only get him to drop out of the race for MdGOP Chairman but supported Mary Kane for the job. I gather that since Bob Ehrlich got beaten and said he was done, that he has cut a deal with Bryan to get him support for his next Governor run by getting Bryan to support his running mate for this Chair seat which she lost. Nasty politics at it's best. In fact in a message sent out by Roger Hale they are having a Bryan Murphy sign burning coming up with all the extras they had left.

Our Tax Dollars

  • A $141,002 federal stimulus grant was awarded to Montana State University to fund a six-week, student trip to Hangzhou, China, to study dinosaur eggs and other fossils.
  • The NSF handed out $1.57 million in stimulus funds so researchers from Penn State could travel to Argentina to study plant fossils.
  • The NSF gave a $95,000 stimulus grant to the University of Massachusetts at Boston to "count pollen grains collected from farms in Iceland" allowing the study of "the role the arctic environment played in the evolution of civic life during the Viking age."
  • The NSF funded research by Jianguo "Jack" Liu of Michigan State on the effect of societal norms in a mammoth government program called "Grain to Green" that pays farmers to convert cropland back to forestland. The outrage? The program is in China.
