The Religion of Peace Strikes Again

Federal agents in a sting operation arrested a Somali-born teenager just as he tried blowing up a van he believed was loaded with explosives at a crowded Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Portland, authorities said.

Yelling "Allahu Akbar!" — Arabic for "God is great!" — Mohamud tried to kick agents and police after he was taken into custody, according to prosecutors.

And these comments about the attempted terrorists attack are a joke:

Somalia Foreign Minister Mohamed Abullahi Omaar said his government is "ready and willing" to offer the U.S. any assistance it may need to prevent similar attempts. He said the attempt in Portland was a tragedy for Mohamud's family and the "people he tried to harm."

"Mohamud's attempt is neither representative nor an example of Somalis. Somalis are peace loving people," said Omaar, whose government is holed up in a few blocks of the capital, Mogadishu, while much of the country's southern and central regions are ruled by Islamist insurgents.

The people trying to carry out these attacks are never a representation of any group, religion , society or country. When will we learn?

DirectTV Now Offering Local Channels Comment Received

"Hello Jonathan,

You have a large readership and I was thinking the you or one of your followers might have an answer to a question that I have.

BACKGROUND: I’ve had Directv satellite TV for many years. For whatever reason we’ve never been able to get our local channels (BOC, MDT, FOX) via satellite and had to rely on the over-the-air transmission received by antenna (POOR RECEPTION in my area). Anyway, the other day I noticed that our program guide had changed and the local channels were listed. I was both, amazed and excited about this and called Directv customer service immediately. I a few short minutes there they were and we were in business. Since there’s no NBC affiliate here they throw in the Philadelphia (WCAU).

Now, here’s the problem that I need help with. FOX 21 is not sending the HD feed to Directv. It is standard def 480p and let me tell you, the Dallas/New Orleans game looked terrible. FOX  is owned by WBOC and their HD feed is perfect. I’ve called the station and left messages as well as emailed. NO response at all from them. I realize that we just had a holiday but you would think they would at least acknowledge my contact attempts. I was hoping somebody out there might know what’s up. Also, I’m sure there’s people out there who don’t know you can get the locals now. They just started! Thanks Jonathan."

Marine pushback to permitting openly gay military

Most of those serving in America's armed forces have no strong objections to repealing the "don't ask, don't tell" law, according to a Pentagon survey of 400,000 active duty and reservists that is scheduled for release Tuesday.

But the survey found resistance to repealing the ban strongest among the Marines, according to the Washington Post. It's an attitude apparently shared by their top leader, Commandant Gen. James Amos, who has said that the government should not lift the ban in wartime.

The Corps is the youngest, smallest and arguably the most tight-knit of the enlisted forces, with many of its roughly 200,000 members hailing from small towns and rural areas in the South.

Marines are unabashed about distinguishing themselves from the rest of the military, with a warrior ethos and a religious zeal for their branch of service that they liken to a brotherhood.
