Want To Be A Guest On My Tv Show?

After taking a bit of a hiatus to finish up my election coverage I will begin taping new episodes of my Pac14 show and am always looking for guests. If you would like to be a guest email me at salisburygrinch@comcast.net

Will Jim Ireton Be A 1 Term Mayor?

I think there is little doubt that Jim Ireton will be a one term Mayor if he even lasts that long. The question I have is who will step up to the plate to take the job from Jim in 2012? I think the challengers will need to start making some noise in the upcoming City elections and we will have a much better idea when those are complete.

Public Comments are just for that

Obviously a review of Robert's Rules of Order and for further reading the one's written by Alice Strugis, would be a big help to elected officials when a meeting is going on. Specifically those that are televised and have a time dedicated to public comments.

Mayor Ireton should take a look at these writings. The fact that he cannot handle criticism is well known and he does a horrible job of maintaining a professional demeanor in a public setting. This behaviour, quite frankly, is embarrassing to this city.

Public comments are set aside so that informed citizens, or those that have interests in that said area that this particular body represents, may comment, question, chastise or praise their elected public officials. It is a time where First Amendment rights, specifically the freedom of speech, is to be displayed.

The fact that any public official does not like what they hear, does not give them the right to violate Robert's Rules or the Council's Rulles of Order and interrupt the public's turn at the floor. Public comments are to have no feedback from the those who occupy an elected seat that is being addressed.

Unfortunately Mayor Ireton does not understand this concept and obviously his short time on the council over a decade ago, did not instill that understanding into his mind.

Is there a simple fix to this situation? Yes there is. The Mayor could request a five minute time slot at each Council meeting to address any topic of his choosing, without interruption. However, it would be at the discretion of the City Council President and likely short of the Mayor washing, waxing and vacuuming her car out weekly, SAM I AM doubts that would happen.

Now, SAM I AM will admit that he does not necessarily agree with Stu Leer's approach (the main one Mayor Ireton has an issue with), however Mr. Leer has every right to speak his mind. SAM I AM certainly understands Mayor Ireton's frustration of having so many people that disagree with him, unfortunately that is part of why he is paid to be the Mayor. Either get used to it or go back to being a teacher full time and playing tennis on the weekend.

SAPOA Or Jim

I want to make this a fair post and ask the question to the citizens of Salisbury who do you fault in this issue between Jim Ireton and SAPOA. You are well aware my opinion is Jim Ireton is completely unreasonable and childish when it comes to this considering after two public forums overwhelmingly the public told him they aren't interested. It is unreasonable attitudes that keep our City from moving forward.
