Kristy Hickman Cases Reviewed Part 2 Robert Purnell UPDATED
One of the more controversial cases Kristy Hickman has been involved with is the Robert Purnell case that revolved around the Deputy accidentally shooting a suspect when he meant to use his taser.
UPDATE: Thanks to a reader
Technically Logan Widdowson was SA but he had been diagnosed with a terminal diesease and had turned over the SA job to Hickman. Judge Long ultimately appointed Hickman to the position of SA. Even though she was not an elected SA she and she alone made the decision to not charge Purnell. I think it is important for folks to know the real truth in this matter. She can say she wasn't SA but she can't say that she wasn't acting SA and the one that made this decision. Please check this out, it's true.

Joe Ollinger Interview On Delmarvanow
I think it is important for people to hear everyone they can running for Office, and even though Joe Ollinger refused interviews with the blogs which I actually respect him for, I want people to at least hear his message before they vote.

Ernie Leatherbury Denied Police Chief Job
Well in the news of the day Jim Ireton presented Ernie Leatherbury as the new Salisbury Police Chief but he was not approved by the City Council. This was probably the best thing the Council could have done because you had 80+ Salisbury City Police Department Personnel sign a sheet supporting Acting Chief Ivan Barkley and it really would have been a huge morale killer if they had just ignored the wishes of the rank and file.
Jim Ireton has now lost the respect of the entire SPD after trying unsuccessfully to replace Ivan against their wishes. I am curious who voted for and against Ernie. I have to add as a side note Ernie is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet so it sucks for him to be caught up in this mess which involves several of his friends.

Salisbury Has New Fire Chief But No New Police Chief
As reported earlier Jeffrey Simpson was nominated and approved by the council last night, Ernie Leatherbury was not approved.
JEFF SIMPSON, a 26-year veteran of the fire service, is a battalion chief of operations with Hanover (VA) Fire-EMS. He has progressive degrees in engineering and management and is certified as a Virginia state fire instructor and officer. He has been teaching leadership, engineering, and strategy courses to businesses and departments for the past 20 years. He instructs at the Hanover County Fire Academy. He is the lead H.O.T. instructor for the HOT evolution “Training for Railroad Emergencies” at FDIC.

Gary Comegys Returns
It was really good seeing Gary in his chair last night for the City Council meeting and helping to move the Business of Salisbury along.
Smoke and Mirrors Time
In what is sure to be academy award winning performances tonight by Debbie Campbell, Terry Cohen and Jim Ireton to sell the Legislative package nobody but the owner occupied home owners in Camden and Johnson lake neighborhoods want BUT it will all be nothing but smoke and mirrors.
I cannot wait for Terry and Debbie to "educate" me on the Legislative package like the public at large are too dumb to figure out what it means, and that is precisely what they say they are going to do before any public input. This is such an insult to the entire City of Salisbury, when in reality they should say "we want to feed you crap and keep you in the dark like a mushroom so you believe what we tell you the package is for"
I honestly am embarrassed for the trio as their hate of renters is very obvious with the entire package and the time wasted on it. They think they are sticking it to the landlords but in reality it is the renters who they are targeting. If you continue to read this joke of legislation it really goes against everything the founding fathers would have wanted. Take a look at this part
"STANDARD OF EVIDENCE CHANGE FOR ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS: By law, the burden of proof is on a property owner to establish that his or her nonconforming use is lawful to the zoning official. If appealing an officials decision to the Board of Zoning Appeals, this ordinance would raise the standard for evidence from a "preponderance of evidence" to the stricter "clear and convincing evidence."
Honestly how many people can trace back the ownership and paperwork dating back to 1936 for all the homes that are rentals in Salisbury? The answer is very few and this is exactly what Jim is planning on, the landlords being unable to provide the documentation on the conversion, so out on the street the renters go. This process has been wasteful and divisive, and has really turned the greater Salisbury population against the three people most actively involved in pushing for it.
SAPOA Partners with Crimesolvers
Last night at the City Council meeting it was announced that SAPOA had teamed up with Crime Solvers to help combat crime in and around Salisbury. This is great news and with a donation of 5,000 dollars and thousands of stickers and business cards given to local law enforcement to hand out, SAPOA has stepped up big for Salisbury.
It is very important that people realize that you do not have to give your name to report a tip to crimesolvers. With SAPOA and the police working together we will all benefit by getting more criminals off the streets. Great job to everyone
Is It Finally Time?
Last night after the regular Salisbury City Council Meeting they met in a closed session for a personnel matter and it looks like Jim is finally ready to let the cat out of the bag. Ernie Leatherbury was seen coming in quietly with another gentlemen most likely Jim's choice for the new Fire Chief as the regular meeting was coming to a close and they both made their way to Jim's office.
It is believed that Jim introduced Ernie as his choice as the new Salisbury Police Chief and the other gentleman as noted as the new Salisbury Fire Chief. It looks like Jim has finally decided on a move.
