Is There any solution for the Cove Road Problems?

Cove Road has certainly been a hot topic lately as local residents are fed up with the parking issues and property trespassing. I agree however I would hate to see Cove Road be closed off for sentimental reasons but the County needs to do something to alleviate the issue. I said in my article on it that they need to first of all expand the parking which would at least help a little, then look into longer range ideas like expanding the park itself.

Re: John Edward Cropper Convicted of Arson

Date: August 10, 2010

John Edward Cropper, age 45 of Ocean City Maryland, was convicted at a trial before the Honorable Thomas C. Groton, III of Malicious Destruction of Property, Trespass, and 2nd Degree Arson. Based upon an investigation by the Ocean City Fire Marshall’s Office it was learned that a suspicious fire occurred at 309 1st Street in Ocean City. Earlier in the evening an officer had seen Cropper in the area of the old George Bert Cropper Concrete Co. and that he had a strong odor of either gasoline or lighter fluid on his person. Cropper was allowed to leave. Shortly thereafter, a fire was discovered within the Concrete property. The fire marshall’s office noticed the odor of a flammable liquid within the building. The building was unoccupied and there was no power to the building, and therefore no source of an accidental ignition of the fire.

A following investigation revealed conflicting statements between Cropper and his wife. Also discovered was a white substance on the bottom of Cropper’s boots, consistent with the dirt within the concrete plant property. After first denying that he had been on the concrete company property, Cropper admitted that he had been there looking for his dog. Assistant Fire Marshall Christello noticed black marks on Croppers fingers and palms and noticed a strong odor coming from his hands, consistent with a flammable liquid.

Sentencing has been deferred pending a pre-sentence investigation. Cropper was convicted of a previous arson in approximately 1986.

Slow Hot Summer Day

Been a very quiet and slow newsweek which as I have said is not such a bad thing. The heat is about the only thing people are talking about mid week.

How Much Money Should Be Spent For A Campaign?

One of the hottest topics among the State Delegate 38A race is how much money should candidates spend for a campaign? Rumors abound that John  Phoebus is spending above 60,000 dollars for this seat. Do elections come down to who can spend the most money for a campaign? or do the people still vote for who is the best candidate?. They really should rename 413 heading toward Crisfield the John Phoebus sign highway as it seems every 100 feet is another John Phoebus sign. I think its great that he has the money and or the support from people to be able to flood the area with signs but just wondered how much do you really need to spend to get peoples attention.

Terry Cohen and Jim Ireton Turntable Masters

They love to spin things in their favor

Terry Cohen and Jim Ireton both in the past week have announced how wonderful it is that crime is down, but if you look at the numbers they say otherwise. This is not an attack on the SPD who do a great job, but lets be honest with the public and not already be planning our re-election campaign.

Above is the comparison of last year to this in crime. We have had an additional murder, 5 more rapes, 4 more thefts and 3,314 more calls for service. Those numbers don't scream crime is dropping, in fact it looks like the drop in Robberies is because people have started murdering or raping instead. I don't consider that an improvement. The problem is crime numbers need to stop being played into politics.

Terry Cohen is already putting the touches on using this in her spring campaign next year obviously, and Jim Ireton wants to try to make it look like Crime has dropped without Chief Webster. If all parties would leave the politics at the door and just do what is best for the citizens we could actually lower crime, instead its smoke and mirrors.

Politics Picking Up Steam In Somerset County: Otto vs Phoebus Hickman vs Powell

The Charles Otto and John Phoebus camps are locking horns down in Somerset. Charles and John are both lifelong Somerset County residents and have hard core supporters sparing with each other. This also goes with the Hickman situation where John decided to not support Dan Powell as he feels Kristy is the right choice for the job. I don't think John expected this much animosity aimed at him when he ran, but the Otto and Powell camps are definitely vocal on the blogs letting him know how they feel about his choices.
