Bruce Patterson My Award Winner Of The Day

Bruce Patterson wins my first monthly FUJA award for standing up to Joe Albero publicly. I am most amused that whenever someone finally goes right up to his face and tells him like it is he whines like the little bitch he is about how unkind they are since his family is nearby and this coming from the ass that complains because people won't use their names in comments, but when someone goes up to him..he pisses himself. Albero the only one that keeps talking about your step-grandson Gavin is you as you love to use him as a shield whenever someone actually stands up to you. Do I feel sorry for him having to be around you knowing how much people despise you? hell yes I do and please Jennifer and her zoo shenanigans and you think people have no right to talk about it? why because it's your wife and that's not allowed..yea keep dreaming. Let anyone of you numerous enemies wives had pulled similar crazy shit and I am sure you and your fine character would never have mentioned it.

Bruce Patterson great job and two thumbs up and I salute you.

Salisbury Maryland All American City?

I had mixed reactions to the announcement that Salisbury had won an All American City designation. I love Salisbury and anything that is positive for it is welcome, however I'm not sure the actual people like myself that reside here feel like we live in an "All American City".

Crime has increased since the departure of Chief Webster at the end of last year, the City is still without a Fire Chief and many local building along 13 and downtown sit empty. I agree that HALO is such a great organization and a very bright spot for our community, but the rest..not so sure about that. It's not that I want to not enjoy it bring recognition to the City I love, I just am not sure now it is such a good time with all the problems we have going on locally. I can say congratulation to the delegation that represented us, and hope we can all work together to make Salisbury live up to the name of an "All American City"

Salisbury Grinch Editorial Regarding Salisbury Fire Department Leadership

As we near the 1 year anniversary of Chief David See's departure, the Salisbury Fire Department is still without a new Fire Chief. This is not going to be aimed at the Mayor for taking way too much time choosing the new Chief (in my opinion) but at what I feel should be done.

I know many firefighters and am proud to count them as friends, and the general consensus that I hear from them is that the department is sliding downhill without a permanent leader. I can tell you my opinion is that Rick Hoppes should be named the new Chief of the department. Rick Hoppes knows more about the administration of the SFD than just about anyone else over there. Searching for a new Chief away from the area is fine, but anyone that isn't familiar with all the political games that get played would already be at a huge disadvantage. This plus the learning curve to get into a groove would still leave the SFD in an uncertain period for longer than is needed.

I know Rick isn't universally loved, {and who would be}but the man knows how to run the Department and honestly it has been a slap in his face not to just give him the job in the first place. I know that if I had been running the department as (acting) Chief all this time and wasn't even being talked about constantly as getting the job full time I would feel like gee thanks. The Salisbury Fire Department deserves to be given a leader that knows how things work and in my opinion Rick Hoppes is the man.

Salisbury Fire Department to Participate in 2010 Fire/EMS Safety, Health and Survival Week

The Salisbury Fire Department will participate in the 2010 Fire/EMS Safety, Health and Survival Week, (Safety Stand Down), during the week of June 20-26, 2010. Safety Week is an event sponsored by the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF).

This annual event aims to improve firefighter safety and health to give all a better chance of survival in emergencies and in the long-term. Fire departments across the nation will take time during the week to go over the safety messages and resources that will help achieve that goal.
“We are looking forward to participating in Safety Week,” said Acting Fire Chief Richard A. Hoppes. “In 2009, 98 firefighters died in the line of duty; already this year, more than 33 have been lost. The purpose of Safety, Health and Survival Week is to reduce these deaths and injuries by calling attention to safety practices and improving them. We will work to incorporate any necessary changes that will improve the health, safety and well-being of our members.”
The theme for Safety Week this year is “Fit for Duty,” which encourages all fire/EMS personnel to focus on health and wellness issues. With more than 50 percent of firefighter line-of-duty deaths caused by health and fitness related issues, it’s imperative that there be a concentrated effort in implementing wellness and fitness programs.

The Salisbury Fire Department 2010 Fire/EMS Safety, Health and Survival Week will include discussions and training on topics such as food and nutrition, fitness, stress management, infectious diseases, suicide prevention and general health and wellness. The Salisbury Fire Department will have daily presentations and training for each shift and all volunteer personnel throughout the week.
