10 Million Dollar Lawsuit Filed against Bobby Jones and Somerset County Sheriff's Department

This is some serious stuff that will be played out in Federal Court. A 10 million dollar lawsuit against Bobby Jones and the Somerset County Sheriff's Office is no laughing matter. This could seriously hurt Somerset County and this is why Bobby Jones needs to go. Bobby has brought shame upon that office for too long and this is just another example of the problems in that office with Bobby Jones in charge. Somerset County please cut your loses with this man and vote Allan Webster.

What was the whole deal with Mark McIver and albero trying to get Allen Webster out of Wicomico? Knowing what I know about them now, I suspect there were some shady dealings there.

Jones gets sued. Webster sues. Can't we get a sheriff that doesn't end up in court for lawsuits? Is there a "none of the above" option?

Anybody can sue anybody for anything these days. You people need to grow up and deal with your outcome Troy!

Wow! This is some serious shit, good job Bobby.

When will the nonsense with Sheriff Jones stop? We need Webster now as our Sheriff. The sad part is that the citizens will have to foot the cost of the lawsuit and not Sheriff Jones. He will continue to hold the most powerful position in the county while making 70,000.00 a year.

Sounds like there will be a lot of subpoenas coming down and federal court ordered one on one depositions taken.I wonder when the finger pointing and the shift of blame game will start?Bobby and his boys that are involved in the lawsuit better start collecting bridge fare.I hope that Durham gets every damn penny in his lawsuit after what was done to him.

Thanks Grinch for keeping the public informed during this important election. My family and I are voting for Webster.

Let's remember presumed innocent until proven guilty!

Really? The Court lets you "tweet", "share" or "facebook" their docket? Wow.

Just Wow.

I work in a law office and can tell you ithat it is very difficult to file a lawsuit in Federal court. The case has already met mandated requirements in order to have been filed. The case will never go before the jury because the county will settle just to keep it out of court.

Anyone has a right to Google md Federal lawsuit cases then click on cases filed in md u s district court then go to type of case and click on civil case.

I have no dog in this hunt. But from a purely legal point of view:

Why did he sue Somerset County? A Deputy Sheriff is not a county employee. Deputies are considered "State" employees. They work for a [Maryland] Constitutional Officer. The County has no control over the Deputies. They have no control over the Sheriff. The Sheriff can hire or fire whomever he pleases. The county had no power to interfere in the mess between Jones and Durham.

SEE: Gregory Beck vs Worcester County Sheriffs Office, et al 23C09000863

A cite from the case: "Court GRANTS Defendant, County Commissioners of Worcester County's, Motion to Dismiss."

you might want to look up Michael Andrews v. Baltimore city police dept. Attorney Howard b. Hoffman

He also sued the state of md along with the Sheriff and the county. The county does have say over a deputy they vote to hire him and pay history salary. In Troy's case even though he was a classified employee and protected under the police officer bill of rights the county where the ones that suspended Troy for a year.

If you sold every single thing in Somerset County, you couldn't get $10 million. So how do they expect to pay this if they lose?

Anonymous said...

Is Troy running for Sheriff or what? Pay that man his money and be done with it, Bobby ducked up big time period.

Anonymous said...

Gunpowder, good question guess we can start with Bobby's. $70,000 salary, his brand new police car, his Leno fund and his booze fund

I hope when the dust settles and Troy is the only millionare police officer around here that he remembers the ones that turned their backs on him, especially the ones with the badges.Looking forward to seeing you in that patrol car again Troy and we`ll know its you because you had the cleanest cop car around!!Good luck and don`t ever, ever give up,God has got your back!!!!

The county has insurance 7:41. Rates will be going up soon.

I recall that the county and James L. Henderson are being sued for 5 million also. Does anybody know how that suit is coming along. Crisfield and the fire dept have been sued also, when will the good old boys give it up and surrender?

Grinch has the letter dated September 10,2008 showing that county commissioners suspended Troy and that is why they are being sued for 10 million dollars. Also grinch has a copy of a letter dated October 7,2008 showing that Bobby investigated himself on the grievance that Troy filed on him.

Voting for Webster! Thank God for the grinch and his public site. If the grinch didn't inform the public on all Bobby's corruption, how would we ever know? THANK YOU GRINCH!

Gunpowder,
I laughed so hard when I read your comment I tried to reread it to my husband and I couldn't even finish the sentence. It's soooo true.

I love that Bobby investigated himself on Troy's grievance. What a freakin joke!

I wish Troy the best.

Hey,Grinch,I saw my neighbor taking down his "re-elect Sheriff Jones" sign earlier this evening!!He said he could no longer support a man of Bobby Jones` character.

I went and did some research on Durham's case.
He filed a grievance on September 4,2008 in accordance with county policy on Sheriff Bobby Jones,Deputy George Nelson,Deputy Renny Miles,Deputy Bill Lewis, and Deputy Les Tyler. His grievance detailed and outlined an incident were he was arrested, assaulted, read his rights, denied his right to an attorney, suspended,un suspended, threatened with dept charges and criminal charges, forced to change an eight day old police report that had already been reviewed and approved by Sgt Paul Williams and Sgt Dan Barrette(this already on record from Durham's trial Board),forced to delete three follow up reports, ordered to place false charges on a black man after Durham was told by Deputy Les Tyler, a District court commissioner, and Kristy Hickman not to charge the suspect etc.
On September 10,2008 the county commissioners suspended Durham in reference to his grievance and gave it Bobby to investigate himself. On September 29,2008 Bobby opened an internal investigation for the chase that had occurred on August 21,2008.Bobby knowing that Durham had named Deputy George Nelson and Deputy Renny Miles in his grievance assigned them to investigate Durham. On July 16,2009 Durham faced twenty dept charges in front of a trial board that was selected by Bobby. After a two day trial Durham was found not guilty of 18 charges and found guilty of two charges for going outside the agency to report police corruption. The trial board gave Durham 10 days without pay,but Bobby fired Durham instead on September 16,2009.Bobby has already cost the taxpayers approximately 80,000.00 by trying to cover up the corruption that was done in this case which has been around for over 2 years and is pending. When Durham wins in Federal court he will get all his back pay and benefits dating back to September 16,2009.Also Durham will get whatever the Federal jury orders after they hear the facts of the case.Everything that has been mentioned is already on court record and is backed up with documents.Bobby's mess has cost the taxpayers thousands and thousands of dollars so far and may even reach millions of dollars at the Federal level. The evidence in this case clearly prove that Bobby and his gang committed police corruption, abuse of power, abuse of position, tampering with police evidence, charging a suspect with false charges, cover up, betraying public trust,etc..
Why would the public reward Bobby on election day and allow him to hold the most powerful position in the county making 70,000.00 a year with unlimited use of a county vehicle?
If it was an open and shut case on Bobby firing Durham, then how come 2 years later and thousands of dollars later Durham's case is still open and is now in Federal court?
Something don't make sense,Bobby has been in law enforcement for nearly 40 years and can't get rid of Durham.Bobby and his gang don't care how much this has already cost the taxpayers or how much more it will cost, because it isn't coming out of their pockets.
TAXPAYERS SEND A MESSAGE ON ELECTION DAY TO BOBBY AND HIS GANG,THAT WE ARE NOT GOING TO CONTINUE TO PAY FOR THEIR CORRUPTION AND COVER UP.

Great job grinch on getting this information out to the public.
Voting for Allan Webste.

SHERIFF JONES SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF!
How in the hell did he investigate himself on the very grievance that Troy Durham filed on him?
He can't lie about this, because I read his letter dated October 7,2008 that he sent to human resources officer Debbie Mahan, stating that he investigated himself on the grievance that Troy filed on him.
CORRUPTION COVER UP ABUSE OF POWER ABUSE OF POSITION ETC...
TROY'S GRIEVANCE WAS ALSO ON DEPUTY GEORGE NELSON AND RENNY MILES, HOWEVER BOBBY ASSIGNED THEM TO INVESTIGATE TROY,WHICH LED TO HIS TERMINATION.
CORRUPTION COVER UP ABUSE OF POWER ABUSE OF POSITION ETC.
BOBBY

Very interesting 4:06am. The fact that Kristy Hickman told Durham not to charge someone that in all probability should have been charged speaks to the root cause of the problems in Somerset. The real problem is Kristy Hickmans role in all of this. The cops have no say in these matters and she determines who and who does not get charged with every crime. She plays judge and jury and she definately looks after her own. For example she cleared deputy Purnell 15 minutes after he shot someone in the back, and that resulted in a law suit. She didn't charge CO Bivens after he was caught in a sex for favors at the detention center. Hickman covered James L. Henderson when he was with out a doubt abusing inmates at the detention center and that case resulted in a law suit. She will not allow charges to be brought against ANY of her so called friends, (democratic voters). It's a sad time in Somerset and hopefully November will bring real change.

Bobby Jones almost ran over me while ago when he was backing his car up at the liquor store, man I`m sick of this shit.I`m about 5`9" with red hair,he must have thought I was Troy.

Bobby Jones should just take down all three signs for his re-election and save himself the embarassment. He doesn`t have a chance against Allan Webster,he is outclassed in every way.The better man is going to win,Bobby. It`s over.No more "Good Ole Boy" shit.I strongly beleive Allan Webster is the right man for the job,but Bobby really screwed up when he f**ked with Troy Durham as I and many others beleieve that is what is going to cost him this election.Troy has put the truth out and can back it all up.What a legacy Bobby Jones will leave behind,in excess of 10 million dollars worth of F`n up.Nice Bobby, nice.

How could Bobby conduct an investigation on himself and clear himself along with the other ones named in the grievance?

How could Bobby assign Deputy George Nelson and Renny Miles to investigate Troy, while Troy had an open formal written against them for forcing him to change an eight day old police report, delete three follow up reports, and place false charges on a black suspect?

The facts are the facts, I have seen the documents for myself.

Vote for Webster on election day and send a mess to Bobby and his boys that the CORRUPTION and COVER UP will not be tolerated any longer.

I hope Troy wins this case, and then,in the next election, runs for Sheriff, Troy is the kind of person Somerset County needs.
